Plenty happened on 17th November 1993

- Wales bottled it when Paul Bodin missed a penalty vs Romania, Romania went on and scored. Had Bodin scored wales would have qualified, The day was also marred by a fan dying from a firework injury.
- England were eliminated, Netherlands won 3-1 in Poland.
- France lost at home to Bulgaria and failed to qualify for the World Cup, Ginola made a mistake and Bulgaria scored in the last kick. Houllier (France Manager) never spoke to Ginola again and neither did Eric Cantona. France 1st loss at home in a qualifier in 25 years
- Northern Ireland vs Republic of Ireland in the height of the troubles. Steel was erected around the ground to prevent trouble.Jack Charlton said it was the most hostile atmosphere he ever seen. Opposite benches had a set too during the game. Charlton and Northern Ireland Manager Billy Bingham had a further set too at the final whistle, Match finished 1-1 which was enough for Republic to go through
- BBC stopped showing the England game and showed Wales game instead, This brought over 300 complaints from viewers
- Spain beat Denmark in the last minute, Thanks to a goal which shouldn't have stood. Spain would have gone out.
- Italy beat Portugal 1-0 with an offside goal from Dino Baggio to send Portugal out. Portugal had a goal disallowed.
