The percentage by colour is irrelevant. The UK population in the mid 70's was approx 56m, now England and Wales alone equal that number. As population continues to the the strain on all utilities and public services will increase accordingly. That's relevant

this wont count people who are "off the radar" either.

a sensible, unemotional rethink on immigration is long overdue.

I agree mate, this debate is due and should be free of party politics. I'm very liberal as regards immigration but realise this issue needs addressing as it's got out of hand

politicians are afraid even to raise the subject it seems to me, which is farcical.

people who are in genuine fear and need asylum, we should never turn away, financial migrants with skill sets we need, excellent.

mass financial immigration needs addressing.

Australia and Canada appear to have a very good working model and it wouldn't be a bad thing if the politicians looked closely at how they deal with the issue.

The problem there is membership of the EU which allows free travel and residence.

it may sound draconian but I also think that some sort of population control is now nearing, i.e. implants in girls to avoid unplanned pregnancy, also some sort of means testing before unmarried couples are permitted to have kids and limits on the number of children. Sounds horrible but if we continue like this the country will be bankrupt in 20 or 30 years.

We can blame the immigrants but they are not the problem, lazy child popping white trash who refuse to work or take responsibility for the children they have created are the root cause. We need hundreds of thousands of migrant workers in this country every year to help with crops and in public services and one of the main reasons is because the indigenous population refuse to work or are faking disability and/or sick notes just to get state hand outs. The whole system is wrong, the initial welfare state was introduced to give people a helping hand when they needed it and not as a lifestyle choice. We have allowed it to be perverted to the point where not only can someone claim to have an injury in order to get benefits but their partner can then claim to be their carer and not work either, its just plain wrong, and yes I have just had a tax bill

action is needed now, lord knows where we will be by the next census otherwise.

the free movement is a problem, but thats what mp's are paid for. until it can be discussed without shouts of racism there will be no solution.

Nick raises a valid point regarding the underclass and their breeding habits. Again no government would dare confront that head on

the immigration argument is a way of deflecting away from what is the underlying problem with the uk, the break up of the family and the no shame attitude that is around now. Politicians will be massacred by the sun and its readers should they even raise the issue, political suicide by media.

I've argued before that solving the dole lifestyle problem does help to solve the immigration problem. Both need addressing in a sensible and non vitriolic manner

1/ we need to accept only people who already have jobs here

2/ they must be able to speak language

3/ no council houses available to any unless they have worked here for at least 5 years

4/ no more than 2 children per couple allowed for everyone

The council house thing makes me angry, when we applied many many years ago after we just got married we were told by them that they had to allocate percentages to each ethnic group and not the people at the top of the list like it should be, positive discrimination

Your first two points are common sense Noisy, I can't see anyone succeeding in an argument against them. Your third point is valid but I would think that securing a home should be compulsory prior to entering the country. That done they wouldn't qualify for council housing.

Your fourth point is too simplistic a way of looking at it. But does open up another area of debate.

What about the lifestyle dole scroungers?
