I accepted a while back that Ally Pally is a slow burner.

The opening round is guaranteed to be mostly dross.

From a viewer perspective the first round should be best of 3 sets

I disagree. The standard is a lot better now. I enjoy the first couple of rounds as it's a chance to see new faces play over a longer format than 1st to 6

This. It’s the biggest tournament so best of 3 would be silly imo

From a players perspective yes. I'm not saying they should change it. But most of the games will be poor standard and/or one sided so it would be better to have them shorter

Still disagree I like it being first to 3 because there’s enough entertaining 1st round games to justify it

But having checked the results this afternoon it didn't appear as bad as I remembered. So fuck knows.

I did enjoy Ally Pally more before they expanded the field. The event now lasts too long for my tastes.

The other TV events I watch are pretty easy viewing. For example, the UK Open is incredibly easy to sit through.

I skip dross like the World Series support events and the World Cup.

If I’m at home on a Thursday evening there’s nothing else for me to do so I’ll stick the premier league on but it’s not something I get excited for like a Euro Tour. If it was on a Friday or the weekend I wouldn’t bother
