PDC World Darts Championship lands 1.72m average viewers on Sport1

Michael Smith’s win against Michael van Gerwen in the World Darts Championship final saw an average of 1.72 million viewers tune into the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) event on the German free-to-air network Sport1.

Confirmed:
•Viewership for the final peaked at 2.36 million
•Smith v Van Gerwen broadcast set a new audience market share record for the tournament, with 8.1 per cent of all viewers
•The 2022/23 World Darts Championship’s 28 matches averaged 600,000 viewers [uhh?]
•Sport1’s streaming platform generated more than 12.8 million live views during the event, up 15 per cent year-over-year (YoY)

Context:
Strong viewership for the World Darts Championship final comes after the semi-final, featuring German star Gabriel Clemens, became the first darts match to surpass three million viewers on Sport1, drawing a 3.78 million peak and an average audience of 1.99 million.
