Walton would have had a great game with Taylor. Walton was on fire. Taylor didn't have much of a challenge in the PDC then

Re: Tournament averages of post split bdo/wdf pretend world champions
Taylor was too good for anyone at that time at World Championship level. The longer the match, the stronger he was. The biggest scare that Taylor had at the 2001 World Championship was against Les Fitton, who won the first set and was competitive throughout the match in a 3-1 Taylor win. Taylor seemed to remember, beating Les Fitton 10-0 at the 2003 World Matchplay with a 108.12 average.oche balboa wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 9:23 pm Walton would have had a great game with Taylor. The Fitton match at the 2001 World Championship, in my opinion, is the main reason why the 2002 PDC World Championship had such a bizarre format. Best of 7 sets in the Last 32, Best of 11 sets in the Last 16, Quarter Finals and Semi Finals, and Best of 13 sets in the Final. Such long formats massively played into Taylor's hands. No chance of an upset like Fitton threatened the year before.

Not denying that. But John Walton was very very good in 2000/1 won the World Masters and won 2001 BDO Worlds in the most impressive field stats wise. It would have been tough for Taylor has he had a majority of the PDC beat and Walton would have been a different opponent he wasn't 100% familiar with. Taylor perhaps would have won but Walton would have giving him a great game unlike Manley, Warriner and Part at the time.

Taylor would have been too much for Walton over a longer format.

Look at the stats for the 2001 World Championships in the later rounds. The Thorn wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:14 pmArguablesennafan24 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:14 pm Taylor would have been too much for Walton over a longer format.

Taylor was unplayable in 01
03-05 he might have been challenged

This.
But even in 2005 he slaughtered the BDO boys in cross-code events, including Headshaker.

Months later Taylor played Painter (Who was a BDO Player) and lost. So it's not beyond the relms of possibility

The grand prix finals against part in that period are an absurdity of play.

Even the late 2000s version of Taylor lost the odd game. For example, he lost the 2009 Premier League semi-final against King.oche balboa wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:30 pm Months later Taylor played Painter (Who was a BDO Player) and lost. So it's not beyond the relms of possibility
They were firmly the exceptions to the rule.
Taylor would beat Walton 8 or 9 times out of 10 over a long format.
