Shitlock averaging over a ton with a bad leg in 2012.
And a classic thread on the old DF dedicated to the big freeze, was comedy gold I seem to recall.

The first one. Dennis Priestley vs. Jocky Wilson, although Jeff Stelling called the latter "Jocky Brown". A damn good match too.

So the first whole Worlds game I saw must have beeen something from the 2001 edition. I'll check the schedule and see if I can work it out ok thanks
Checked. The first Worlds game I can swear to having watched in full is... Graeme Stoddart v Gayl King. :? I almost certainly watched the game before it too, at the top of that afternoon session: Paul Lim v Dan Lauby Original.

But the actual answer, most likely, is the opening game of the tournament on the previous afternoon: Dave Askew v Mick Manning. Thank you.

how is this possible exactly?

You are in the 'earliest memory' thread in 2017 saying this, if it helps:

Randall wrote: Wed Sep 20, 2017 3:24 pm Having started this thread I honestly can't remember any specifics.
I remember it was Bristow and Lowe so I'm guessing early 80s.
First absolute clear memory is jocky winning.

Impressive. Have you read Sid's 'Bellies and Bullseyes'? There's a great bit in that about the launch.

Vaguely remember 82 Jocky winning but the one that sticks is Deller 83, and there's been enough column inches covering that final. But overall a good finals with Jocky missing the 9 on T15.
Bristow, merely a tale, a fable...an image froze in time.

Would keep a lot of good players out. Wright would easily win the title.

If I remember right Smith said it was embarrassing having to play him.

Cracking game.
I've worked out that the first Worlds game I recall loving was Harrington v Scholten, a QF on New Year's Day 2001. Roland was proper acting the dick and God was in a foul mood.
