What Taylor would have reduced him too would have been hilarious

If MVG played in Taylors timeframe alongside each other Taylor gets nowhere near 16 world titles.

It's impossible to know either way since Taylor's standards over a long period of time are what made the current era of darts possible. Van Gerwen in some ways in 2022 is better than he's ever been, because now he's having to grind it out a lot more and has won some big TV tournaments this year. Taylor was the best player in the world in all 16 years that he was World Champion.

I think definitely would have been interesting if darts was unified. Hankey would have won a world title for sure. John Walton was great but personally I don't think he would have won one. I think Waites still gets one but definitely not 2. Wolfie not sure he had the game but not the bottle like Waites.
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

As for thread title I don't agree. MVG will be a force for years to come and will be picking up majors

Taylor would have won more than MVG if their careers crossed over altogether.

Taylor was too consistent.

This.. Philth would still have double figures but not as many as 16...

Peak MvG would have just made Phil work even harder at perfecting his game cos he hated losing

The other players had better get their acts together fast, though. They don't want the MvG monster from before Covid coming back, and it could happen if they don't sort themselves out soon. At the moment, MvG is grinding away, sometimes playing his very best and sometimes underperforming, but is also winning some big tournaments now unlike last year. If he wins the World Championship in a certain way, he might have the confidence to dominate again on a more regular basis.

He's only won 3 without a peak Taylor
