Practice or not?

Post by Snakehipsx2 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:26 am

I have a dilemma. After playing like a total retard for the best part of a year, I decided a few months back to knock the game (competitively) on the head for the time being. I've still been going out for a game a couple of nights a week and turning up for league games in case the team was short but more often than not I've been stepping aside and letting the young lads get a game while I've concentrated on what I'm good at (getting pissed and aggravating the bar staff). Over the last 2-3 years I've pretty much practiced every night either at home or in the battle cruiser but since my spotlight bulb went the night before the Stretford Open in February I've not bothered - I'd actually done my best practice while playing in the BIG poker on PS & coincidentally played my best poker at that time too.

Right, the problem is this ......... Two weeks ago was the qualifiers for my league individuals and before hand I had decided that I wasn't going, partly because my mate Eddie was working at 5am the next day and had said he was going to stay at the pub and get an early night rather than play in a comp which usually finishes at about midnight. I had assumed that Eddie meant he'd be staying in the pub til 10.30 so I was intending to keep him company and throw a few darts before stumbling home myself, however, Eddie was knackered on the night and said he was going to go home at 8pm so that would have left me in the pub on my own and I decided I might as well go to the individuals and support the other 6 lads who had entered. On arrival I found that my captain had signed me in and I was in the draw, I didn't get chance to practice as I was far to busy chatting to people that I only see a few times a year but I wasn't expecting anything other than a 2-0 first round defeat so I wasn't bothered. Anyway, I got a bye in the first round so I celebrated my victory with another pint. The draw meant I was playing a very good player and an old friend of mine in the second round and wouldn't have backed myself to win unless I was offered 20/1 or better....... however, not only did I win this one but I beat a team mate of mine in the board final to qualify for tomorrow's finals night. Now I don't know what to do tomorrow, I have the afternoon off and could, in theory, spend the day practicing and prepare myself for what will be a tough night or I could do what I did two weeks ago, get pissed and have a laugh.

Decisions decisions ...................

It's all in your head, practice badly and then play well or good results in practice and play bad.

You know you've got the game Snake just BELIEVE!!!

That reminds me, are you likely to be visiting again before the end of the season?

Think my sisters are here that weekend, Mum's anniversary on 5th, my wedding anniversary 7th and old man is 70 on the 9th. Give me a shout nearer the time and let me know when you're here and I'll try to get parole.

Well this didn't end well, started off first leg 85, 81, 100 and was 150 behind :o Hardly hit a 60 after that and was duly dumped out 3-0 .... Gaffer left himself on 56 after 12 darts to make his quarter final 2-2 but my mate Gary took out 153 to beat him 3-1  Went back to the pub and got sloshed.

Retire and never play darts again, that way you'll never ever lose. Never ever. Simples.
