Grand National
As I've mentioned before I'm balls deep with Sychronised @ 10/1, 9/1 & 8/1 ........ only to wake up this morning to a call from the Mrs telling me Ladbrokes were going 12/1 !!!!!!!!! Thankfully I have a shrewd wife who knew there was only one thing to do in this situation. I don't need to say what it is really do I?
Other than that I've been having a butcher's for some each way value and have come up with the following nags who will probably fall on the first circuit ......................
Neptune Collonges 40/1 - Been around the block this thing and always seems to be there and there abouts when the big ones come around. Champion trainer Nicholls has never won this race but only saddles the one contender this year so must think he holds a decent chance. Giles Cross is well fancied for the race but only beat Neptune by a neck at Haydock so at twice the price he looks a bet.
Sunny Hill Boy 20/1 - Did me a good turn at Cheltenham and looked a dogged plodder type that will be suited by the stamina test here. Same owner / trainer as Synchronised and has the under-rated Richie McLernon smacking his arse. Backed it for the Irish national last year and was going well when some clown fell in front of him four fences out and spoilt his chance, he still ran on to finish 3rd. My bet on Synchronised is mainly based on the fact he's 7lb "well in" on the handicap, Sunny Hill Boy is 10lb better off.
Quiscover Fontaine 66/1 - Back in the day, my Grandad used to say that the best National horses were 2 & half mile hurdlers that could jump ...... this fella was doing just that before staying on into fourth in the Irish National last season and has been kept over hurdles since which the owner has said was to keep his handicap mark low enough to give him a chance in this. Big price.
Always Right 33/1 - Named after me and was one of the shorter priced contenders in the ante post markets before two nightmare runs at Wetherby & Haydock. Has had a breathing operation since then and just possible that he will get back to his best today, if he does then 33/1 will look a bit silly at 4.30pm.
Well there's five for you to eliminate, who are you backing?

Re: Grand National
Is it still right to never back any horse that's carrying over 11 stone in the National?

Re: Grand National
Synchronised has been schooled all year just for the National.
His win at Cheltenham was not expected and was a very pleasant bonus for the owners.
Or so I heard elsewhere.
The National is his race.
