The UK Open is a legitimate major imo.

Yes, it was better at the Reebok, but it's still one of the best tournaments in darts. The Matchplay is the only tournament I prefer to it.

That was a top game at the 2016 Slam. He looked like he belonged there. Impressive moments often end up nowhere but Norbit has managed to stick. Surely by several measures he will end up outshining Durrant in the PDC which is... funny. Those golden days of Duzzamania...
Long term this was happening.

I lean towards week long events as majors but I wouldn't argue against it
It's certainly a massive event

I dont tend to agree with 3 day long open being a major but the week long GSoD not.

'Major' is a private idea and I hate this topic so much but where attitudes comes from is always interesting.

If the UK Open is 'a major', how can the PC Finals not be?

I get what you mean. However, it's a 7 day event crammed into 3 days really.

Price played 7 games and 118 legs to win the 2021 GSOD.

Noppert played 6 games and 99 legs to win the 2022 UK Open.

Not that much difference.

UK Open was one of the original majors. So more history and importance.

There is no perfect definition or selection of majors. If you are going to pick a list there will always be possible arguments

Indeed but still I'm not really having 'history' as criteria. That's mushroom. The UK Open is only 6 years older than the PC Finals anyway.

We can all debate, pontificate and argue over what constitutes a major, but surely what the PDC say and players think is the actual answer.

Worlds
Matchplay
PL

U.K. open
GSOD
Grand Prix
European open
Players championships.
World Series finals
Masters

These are the current ones.

Well it's original-ish in PDC land. It was one of the first things Hearn announced when he became chairman.

He actually called it 'the PDC British Open' which is a fun curiosity.

The pdc had been running world events for nearly a decade at that stage
