One year I got a bike for my birthday. So I went peddling off down the road and knocked an old lady down.
'Can't you ring your bell?' She said. 'I can ring my bell,' I said 'But I can't ride my bike'

Why is Simon Weston considered a hero?

had the fried prick had the sense not to be in the army it would never had happened to him.

Pisses me off when people who have no clue whats going on or just sent out to some shithole get killed and then classed as heros

Why??? all he done was accept what happened.
Asshole footballers are called heroes, police who get shot doing their job are called heroes, a load of shit

what bravery ??
he got burnt so got a medal....wheres the bravery?
wheres the heroics in getting burned ?

Its not like he volunteered to get burned for his country.
Would he still be a hero had he managed to have the good sense to jump in the water and avoid the burning ???

wjat about his crewmates that did not get burned....are they heroes or is it only reserved for victims ?

What I can remember was he got badly burned when the Agries sank one of the British ships. (Inept commanders again it seems.)

So if he's classed a hero for being trapped on a burning ship, would this make Tomh a hero as well?

A cop in ireland was knocked down a while back, guy did not see the car but the press called him a hero...why because he died ?

same for that burned squaddie, why exactly is he a hero? had he not got burned no one would ever know who he was or care

injured serving his country, been an example of bravery ever since, charity work etc despite his own massive problems.

of all the people in the world to despise or insult i would think he would be someway down most peoples lists!

my own father was in an ambush in the 60s in the congo in africa where people got shot and killed, those that died were heroes, whereas people like my father who had the good sense to be vigil, alert and survive were ignored.
This was long before PTSD, sick leave etc......

Seems that if you want to qualify for hero status you must be either stupid enough or unlucky enough to get injured ,

This I have to agree with. It's the courage he's shown since his horricic injuries that make him a hero, not what he did or didn't do during the Falklands conflict.
