Yeah me too, was a treat to have a hot dinner.

Though not so common when I was younger, kids in a single parent family always got theirs free.

Posh cunt!

No school dinners here always had a packed lunch.
One year I got a bike for my birthday. So I went peddling off down the road and knocked an old lady down.
'Can't you ring your bell?' She said. 'I can ring my bell,' I said 'But I can't ride my bike'

Most of them had a two rich step parents, one living with them but were still able to claim free dinners.

Took money for school lunches but spent it on cigs. A guy in an ice-cream van used to sell them dirt cheap hid in brown bags. He was my hero for a short time.

Them's were the days. Our school made us buy vouchers but they were so easy to forge.............

I remember starting the last year of primary school and uniforms were introduced for the first time.....my parents and many others told the school to basically fuck off, that they were not buying uniforms for the sake of one year.
Money was tight back then in the 70s in ireland, with one third of the country emigrating.

You could buy loose cigarettes, and half pints were not just for women anymore

I was working on the paraffin and in a butcher shop when I was at school, earning more than my big brother who was an apprentice. At that time 20 number 6 was about 30p and I'd sell fags in the playground for 5p each.

Business is business
