Re: Share Your Controversial Darts Opinions
- Barney is due a bit more respect on here as a player. I'd have him as all time 4th, behind Taylor, MVG and Bristow.
There's no way I agree with him being 6th of all time. He's certainly got to be better than Lowe and Anderson. Everyone forgets the decade where Gary Anderson tanked constantly and blew unbelievable amounts of doubles at a consistent basis. He was also pretty shit in the BDO, when churned against a pretty questionable field.
Lowe is a tricky one as it's a different era but you can never know for certain if Lowe would've thrived for so long with everything else that comes with darts these days (popularity, the crowd, the tour). His ability on the smaller boards is almost unparalleled though.
-Aside from his obvious ability, I despise watching Dimitri Van den Bergh. Everything from the dance, to the stand back and breathe, to the hand in pockets. Comes across as a serious cunt and I've heard rumours he's not the "polite young man" a lot of people think he is.
-The World Cup is a bit shit and should be held once every two years
- Taylor and RVB should captain a Ryder Cup-esque tournament with legends and current players in the other years. The only good idea ever to come from Nicholson's mouth.
- I like Andrew Gilding and James Wilson. On the outside, two older jobbers who are often shit, but they're actually very decent when they get going. Gilding's weird routine is now much faster and Wilson is quite fast when he gets going. I also find Wilson's interviews and laugh pretty funny, but can see why people would find him annoying. Both seem like decent lads as well, despite Gilding's "dubious" looks.
- Aside from Dimitri, other players I don't like include- Taylor (when he was on tour), Cross, Bellyboy, Cullen, Dobey, O Connor, Lennon, Humphries and Hammercunt. That's a lot, but I also like a lot too, which I'd add to any, "players you like" thread.
- The aversion to Cullen and Dobey is nothing due to them as people, they seem down to earth and dead on away from the oche.
Cullen though has an arrogant stage persona and has a habit of beating players I like just to choke next round. A bit of a silly thing as well, but I hate his walk on too.
Dobey is okay but has bandwagoned his expectations on everyone hyping him to be the next future World Champion (after Smith). Baby steps.
-James Wade and John Part are serial overachievers who 99% of the time get/got smashed when players don't/didn't choke against them
- Rob Cross does not seem as well-liked on tour as his nice guy to the fans reputation suggests and is beginning to attract several big tv incidents. He is also painful to watch even when in form.
- In normal circumstances, tour card holders should play 20% of the year and the PDPA qualifier or get banned in Year 2
- Fallon Sherrock is overrated. I'll leave it at that.
- Wayne Mardle is not THAT bad in commentary. He's good in the studio and funny when with Studd and Part. He's nauseating though with Turner, but nowhere near as bad as NIGEL PEARSON!!! and Sssstuasrt Psykse. Those two should be binned asap.
- Dan Dawson used to piss me off, but I've warmed to him. Says it as it is and isn't afraid to call a player shit. The most intelligent and well prepared commentator as well bar none. He does however suffer from over-bloating the achievements of the next in line- Jose and Ian White especially.
- Chris Murphy is a horrible commentator. His tone is so boring, its like he's not even trying. He's obviously very intelligent and passionate about it, but you wouldn't know from listening to him as an outsider.
- Jacqui Oatley comes across as fake and trying too hard
- Sky's coverage is much better than ITV. I really like the Sky hype and promos, it hypes up big games to have some kind of importance (there is a line though re::Glass Ceiling). Part and Webster are the best in the business and I also like Mardle too. If Rod dropped the catchphrases and smiled more, I might like him too.
ITV however is tired, boring and very dated, with the same background songs, pundits and scoreboard for almost 10 years now. It needs an overhaul, starting with Mason and Rawling.
-On the subject of Mason, he's a very decent pundit. But he keeps spouting the same shit in comms with Rawling constantly. But all that's irrelevant, his personal life and social media should make him indefinitely ineligible for tv.
- The UK Open should go back to June and on Sky for a week at Butlins. ITV should take the Grand Prix, as I don't think Sky care as much for it as the others. They like the Worlds, the PL, Matchplay and Grand Slam for obvious reasons but WGP has always seemed the black sheep in their coverage. Maybe a change of venue and ITV could do it some favours.

I really like this, but maybe for different reasons. It rewards players in the rank and file like Matthew Dennant, Beveridge and Barstow, who pay their dues and have the tools but come up short at Q school time and time again.oche balboa wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 10:45 amYep still believe theseoche balboa wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 2:15 pm Not controversial but hey ho
1) Darts isnt as good as it was 10-15 years ago
2) Challenge Tour should be Q School (More cards)
3) Players with Tourcards shouldnt play in the World Youth, And that should be under 21
4) Darts missing Phil Taylor more then people realise/admit
As for the BDO players, unlike a lot, I enjoy seeing BDO players make it, to see how they react to the cut throat nature of the tour. Especially established ones like Durrant and Waites.
But at the end of the day, making the CT Q-school would eradicate one of the most exciting elements of the calendar for fans. As for players, if you're good enough, you usually make it through Q School, or find a way, in the end anyway.
Mitchell, Waites and Hughes all bombed at first but showed they're good enough to adapt. Durrant and Norris got through first go. There aren't many players who can complain about their Q school failures. Those that can are certainly not named Jim Williams and Cameron Menzies, two of the worst attitudes to professional sport in darts.

Alcohol should be banned from the venues for the players. Make darts alcohol free from the time the players reach the venue.
Test players on arrival to the venue then after the match to ensure alcohol isn’t consumed.

Well it’s been banned from the players tables for many years, obviously for the tv image. Why not ban it atRandall wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:30 pmWhy?HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:29 pm Alcohol should be banned from the venues for the players. I see no obvious sign anyone is abusing it outside of a few obvious examples like hankey etc.

Well if people think alcohol should be allowed that’s fair enough, but why not let the players have it on the tables then? ( I obviously know why) So it’s not good for said player to have a loads of alcohol on the table, but during a break they can have a skinful ??TheMalteseDart wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:39 pmNo need for this really, if it’s not broke don’t fix itRandall wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:30 pmWhy?HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:29 pm Alcohol should be banned from the venues for the players. Ban it all from the venues. If a players wants a drink, I’m sure they can wait until they get home/back to the hotel.

It was second, he failed really badly the year Durrant made it. If you regard all unified, PDC and BDO 'major' titles as absolutely equal to each other, then it's a fair looking list at a glance.
Why in the name of Garry Thompson's toaster you would actually do that that is a whole other question. It takes some serious unplugging of the brain.

I agree with 1-6 only swap MVG and Bristow.
Wolfie and Durrant can rightly fuck off though. A complete disgrace to be deemed better than Priestley, Part, Wade, Wright, Snackpot and Bob Anderson and many, many more.
Durrant will unfortunately end his career as a "3 time World Champion" in the eyes of far too many
