Peak Eric Bristow vs the current generation
If we could send back a time machine to transport Eric Bristow at his peak (1984/1985?) into 2018, how do you think he would do against the current generation of elite darts players?
Statistically, Eric's best averages do not compare favourably with the elite players of today, but we should remember he played on the old stapled boards with smaller trebles which made scoring more difficult. He was a master of mind games who had many players in his back pocket before the game even began. He was also a clinical finisher who could be relied upon to take out key checkouts under pressure.
In my opinion, he would struggle to keep up with van Gerwen or an in form Anderson, but he would certainly make the top 10 and possibly the top 5. I could see him winning the occasional major but he certainly wouldn't dominate like he did in the 1980s.

Possibly number 1. An amazing dart player who had an uncanny knack of delivering when it mattered most, a master at having the winning mentality, and in putting seeds of doubt into opponents heads. Today's generations don't like players doing the antics either, so Bristow is in their heads easily.

It's only mvg that stops me putting number one so went top five.
Anyone who thinks Bristow wouldn't beat Wright, Gando etc knows nothing.

Imagine thinking the likes of Wright and Gurney are better than a prime Brissy...

Re: Peak Eric Bristow vs the current generation
Only MVG is the question here really. The likes of Wright or Barneveld would be slaughtered by Bristow easily. Think if MVG faced Bristow in a big game it'd be a coin toss. If we're talking world rankings, I'd imagine MVG would still be number one, he is more consistent than Eric ever was. Other than that, Bristow would run amok in today's field. Maybe Gando at his peak could rival him but that's about it.

Ando at his best could and would have success in matches against Bristow but I think Eric would be more consistent overall and only be second to MvG and even then he'd have his share of wins over MvG in big matches.

Top five only because there wasn't an option for top two. Bristow at his best won many matches before a dart was thrown and would do that against today's lot

Top 5
Ando and MVG would do alright against him
Gurney, would be crying blood and nut mustard out of his crimper on stage
Wright would fuck of back to the circus
Wade would OD on spaz pills
Lewis would stay on the ferry
RVB's head would drop off from all the shaking
The Grand Slam, the BDO travel club pwoper darts shit cunt team would be raped.
Bristow: "Hello pub dart muppets and shit cunts, me 501 you 301, just so you get a chance of getting to a check out."

Top 5.
Possibly number 1. I think he could get inside MVG's head during the big tournaments. Anderson would occasionally be a thorn in his side. The rest he would have the measure of. Although, Cross and Cadby have a lot of time to progress, and Lewis is a shell of the player he used to be.

King Eric would undoubtedly be world number one, have every single player in the practice room either petrified, seething or both and be handing over 50% of his earnings to the DRA.
Bristow preferred breaking people rather than records, the modern era snowflake professionals would be nothing more than cannon fodder for the legend to mentally abuse at his leisure.

Bristow's tournament average was below 90 during the 1988 BDO Worlds.Randall wrote:Who on earth thinks top 16?
It's clear that he would be swallowed up today.

Re: Peak Eric Bristow vs the current generation
All depends on how Bristow does outside of the world's. Judging by his record in the 2nd biggest pre-split major,
I'd fancy him to do much better in Blackpool than he did in the 90s, and of course to do well at the Grand Prix, but as for the minor majors and the ProTour, who knows.
Head to head, it's hard to tell who's better on pure talent, but Bristow would get in MvG's head for sure, so I'd give Bristow the edge
