Thursday 19th September 1985.

It's party conference season, how disgusting. Hot topics include coal and South Africa.

John Sullivan sitcom 'Just Good Friends' at 9.25pm on BBC1.

Later on a big old debate from Cambridge: Should the BBC be financed by advertising?

A Jim Davidson sitcom on ITV Granada at 9pm: 'Up the Elephant and Round the Castle'. Heard of it, never seen.

But very distracted by all these adverts tbh. Also the Ceefax page numbers!

Monday 19th September 1994.

More of the Sci-Fi special TV Times.

Today is the day The X-Files premieres in the UK. Almost exactly a year since its US premiere (10th Sept 1993). It follows Series 4 ep1 of Rab C Nesbitt.

8.30pm on BBC1, suitably given that it's X-Files Day, a paranormal-y episode of 2 Point 4 Children. Great show.

Monday Night Football on Sky Sports is Ipswich v Norwich. A Premier League game at the time. Both get relegated, lol. Norwich had a shocking collapse that season. Jobbers as fuck.

Nice
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

Saturday 20th September 2003.

Some rarely spotted 2003 listings. 20 years ago today...

Pop Idol sticks out. The beginning of the end? BBC1 puts up 'Fame Academy' against it, probably roughly the same show. Bring back Brucie. Twats.

Phillip Schofield hosting the National Lottery. A new series of Parkinson features Cilla Black who is 60, how amazing.

Channel 4 is showing 'Scream'. It's only 7 years old. The Radio Times gives it 5 stars.

ITV highlights show 'The Premiership' didn't last long in the 7pm slot. Humped back to 10.30pm by this point. It includes a look ahead to Man United v Arsenal, oohhf... pretty sure this is the game where Van Nistelrooy smacks a late penalty against the bar. Arsenal won't lose a league game all season.

Sunday 20th September 1981.

A page long write-up by Sid Waddell for the first edition of the British Professional Championship.

'It makes you proud to be British when you take a close look at the field - because only a half-dozen foreign players could, on current form, get into this tournament'.

BBC1 at 6.10pm: 'Rolf's Here! OK?' No, definitely not ok.

BBC1 has 'The Sting' at 7.15pm. ITV has Thunderbirds and snooker. A mini letters page in the TV Times.

The Times' arts and entertainment review on Monday 18th September 1972.

Interesting comment on the difference between famously controversial sitcoms 'Til Death Us Do Part' and 'Love Thy Neighbour'. They ain't impressed with the latter...

The full page is underneath and is a huge scan so expand at leisure.

Tuesday 20th September 1977.

Sooty changes hand/s. Harry hands over the bears to his son Matthew. 4.20pm on ITV Granada.

An Oxfam appeal for 'cripples in Calcutta'.

Dave Lanning writing about Connie Booth... yikes. Different times lads. She will be appearing in 'The Strange Case of the End of Civilisation as We Know It' with John Cleese and Arthur Lowe.

Thursday 21st September 1989.

Featuring a letters page in apology to Bob for my Barney miscalculation.

A Clive James feature first up. Just call him a fat bastard and have done with it.

10.50am on BBC1... unfortunate.

10.25pm on BBC1: Question Time. I recognise the name Clare Short MP but forget what atrocities she committed.

BBC2, 8.30pm. Top Gear (Proper) followed by an episode of Police Squad, the Leslie Nielsen comedy. That's so weird.

6.30pm on Radio 4: 'Trivia Test Match'. I've heard some of those. Brian Johnston presents it, a quiz which goes by the rules of cricket.
