Does anyone (22 years ago now) remember the day? Some were too young or not born

And what about the conspiracy Theories surrounding the day

The news broke late at night here but I was already in bed.

Remember waking up and seeing it all over the news.

I got home from school and put on local radio to hear some music.

A song ended and the DJ said in a horrible tone something like 'We'll be getting the latest from what's happening in New York' and then the ads came on as usual.

They weren't in the habit of letting real world news interfere with their shows so this sounded serious.

I put on the BBC on TV and there it all was. This was around 4pm. Even given 2001 levels of tech I'm surprised I'd not heard a thing about it before that.

The first plane had hit around 2pm UK time I think. Some people around me probably would have known something about it but I'd heard nothing.

I'm surprised the game went ahead.

It was a sunny Tuesday. I had had the new edition of Match magazine, which always came out on Tuesdays.

I was looking forward to the Champions League football that night. Liverpool were due to play I believe. Bayer Leverkusen maybe, hmm. Not too sure, but all those games were postponed.

I hope to get the TV listings later. The schedules were in tatters of course and the BBC showed a random OFAH in the evening, if memory serves.

Liverpool were playing their 1st home game in the European Cup/Champions League since 1985 that night. Mallorca beat Arsenal 1-0

They discussed cancelling the League Cup matches but i assume the schedule couldn't really allow it. Might have been different if it was League matches.

I remember Match magazine. Used to get that and Shoot

I was in school, they didn’t bother telling us so we found out when we got home.

Conspiracy theories, LOL.

I was in high school.

I heard about the attacks just after the school day ended around 3.45pm. Other pupils were discussing it while leaving the school.

So the games went ahead on 9/11, but all CL/UEFA Cup games scheduled for the day after were postponed for a week.

Liverpool drew 1-1 at home to Boavista on the day itself, for the record.

I have a very vague memory of hearing a rumour in the days following that a teacher at my school had cried after hearing the news. However, I recall everyone I interacted with that day being pretty chilled.

It was different for others. I remember someone telling me a few years later that they were watching Crossroads and were baffled when it didn't return from adverts. After a delay the feed apparently switched to coverage of the attacks. The same person told me they thought the world was ending when they saw the footage of the planes hitting the towers.

Every channel (Non-News or mainstream) was continuing with their programming but with a banner at the bottom saying to turn over to breaking news even the music channels

What are your views on the conspiracy theories you alluded to in the OP?
