That, and I don't think the talent today is necessarily much stronger than 15 years ago.

More depth overall? Yes. But a combined PDC and BDO 32 man field in 2006 wouldn't be much weaker than the 2021 Matchplay field.

It's okay as long as she is over 14

I'm not fishing for once :)

Steve Beaton was the 25th seed for the 2020 PDC Worlds which was essentially a unified field.

Beaton was the 17th seed for the 2006 PDC Worlds back when the BDO still had some of the world's best players.

Was Beaton really any better in 2020 than he was in 2006? Or, as I suspect given how easy his throw is, about the same level?

Perhaps Beaton is about the same, but I refuse to believe that the current Pro tour qualifiers are worse or equal to the mighty 2006 BDO field of Eccles, O'Sheep, Greatbatch and the Wally darter winning the whole damn thing without avging more than 91 in any game.

As I said, the game has more depth these days, especially beyond the top 32. My point is that if you brought the top 32 in the world in 2006 under one roof then the field would be comparable to the top 32 in the PDC today. By combining the two fields in 2006, it would weed out the likes of Greatbatch, Montgomery, Alan Caves, Jamie Harvey, etc

Also, Jamie Hughes, Ricky Evans and Jermaine Wattimena were all seeded in the top 32 for the 2021 PDC Worlds. So it's not like ordinary players don't get seeded today.

Greatbatch made the semis ffs. Apart from the usual of Sugar Ray and Adams, everyone in the quarters onwards was an utter joke. The Dross of the pro tour qualifiers today would smack the shit out of those other 6 quarter finalists.

Actually, perhaps switch 2006 with 2007.

That way, a combined field would include Wade and a young MVG.

It also had Anderson, King, Whitlock, O'Shea, Fitton and Hankey in the field. Most of which underperformed. I agree that the tournament itself was an utter shambles.
