Darts In A 2020 Pandemic Quiz
Posted: Sun Nov 01, 2020 6:23 pm
Safc has hosted some of these quizzes in the past and I thought I could make a contribution as well.
I'm willing to host this quiz on any of the oncoming three days without darts, probably starting at 5pm British time and ending whenever the questions have been answered.
I hope you guys are in for this. My main motivation is post count. The old threads usually got multiple hundreds of posts for one night, so I guess this will help us reach 1mil as soon as possible.
15 questions related to darts about a hectic year for everybody. First post will contain all questions for those who can't make it in time and want to not be spoilered and try themselves - you can then share your guesses in 15 separate posts.
Tell me if and when you want to take part in this quiz.
Quiz underway...
1. Dirk van Duijvenbode has risen to the scene lately, with a Grand Prix final and another run at the Euros. His nickname is The Titan, but recently he goes by Auberginius. Name at least 3 other current Tour Card holders who have a type of food as their name.
2. Devon Petersen's run to the semi-finals at the European Championship was only the second time he reached the last 8 of a televised ranking event. When was the other time he did so?
3. The 25th year of the PDC World Championship marked two fairytales: the ending of the GOAT, as well as Rob Cross becoming the new star of the show. But which other youngster also made a surprising run to the semi-finals that year?
4. The PDC Home Tour has already been long forgotten about and ditched by many. Most of you are probably able to guess that the first edition had groups of four, and Home Tour II and III have groups of seven. But in one occasion, there was a group of five. Why was that?
5. The Summer and Autumn Series are unique in several ways, one of those is because they embrace five floor events played on consecutive days. We're used to seeing Sat-Sun weekends of two PC events, but we don't even have to go that far back to find other instances of more than two ranking floor events being held consecutively. In what year was this last the case?
6. Name every player to have hit a televised nine-darter so far this year.
7. Since the corona outbreak we've had 3 televised "majors" and 3 people who had to miss out due to contracting COVID-19. All of their replacements reached the quarter-finals or better. Name them.
8. Name all six women that have played or will play at the Grand Slam of Darts.
9. Talking about Anastasia, let's take a look at her achievements. Many will know of her victory over a certain male player at the 2009 Grand Slam of Darts - but that's too easy, so which former PDC Worlds semi-finalist did she come very close to beating after being 4-0 down?
10. Which players made their tenth consecutive appearance at the World Cup of Darts last week?
11. The corona pandemic sees TV tournaments on a bland stage, with a caller, and a big empty void behind the players. This is not the first time we've seen these scenes. What other tournament saw eleven players miss out as the others played behind closed doors?
12. And now that we mention that tournament: Which old legend reached the quarter-finals that weekend, and who was he beaten by?
13. Name at least 4 players representing a non-European country to have played at the European Championship.
14. The Premier League lasted six weeks before the glory of moving across the globe (across England, really, with some excursions to the Netherlands and Germany) had to be stopped. How many venues in total were scrapped from the calendar?
15. Name as many colors as you can which Wright has worn as his main color at stage tournaments this year.
