3 hit wonder you mean? Not including all the other finals he made etc. There aren't too many PDC world champs around you know. You argue with Cross but not Wright, Harrington, Beaton, Waites?
Beaton I’ll grant you is a bit controversial, he could be replaced by David Whitcombe. The others you mention I’ll stand by. Waites for example as well as winning the main BDO events won the grand slam and finished runner up and I think get to the SF also. He competed against the PDC and was successful.

I like Beaton, but he's made only one PDC stage final in 25 years.

I have Waites in the top 20 because he won the GSOD, which I place more value on than winning Lakeside post-2005.

I'll give credit to Klaasen, who after all did beat Barney in the final, but the only post-split Lakeside champions who won anything big after switching were Part (who took his time as well), Barney and Durrant (lol), everyone else you'd have to classify as a bit of a disappointment (maybe a bit harsh on Webster who was good for a while before falling down the rankings? Klaasen showed flashes here and there but nothing really consistently, Waites is years removed from his title win and is still a blank slate to a degree, could be a dangerous unseeded player but realistically he's not going to be a major force)

A lot of people claim that Lakeside only declined after RVB left.

The truth is that Lakeside 2006 was a bit of a shambles. There were only 5 95+ averages in the entire tournament, and Klassen's highest average throughout the week was 90:42.

That's what happens when you don't use toyboards ;)

Lakeside may have been respectable in the past, though it was always a pale imitation of the PDC version, it always had a lot of talented players, but how many switched and made an immediate success of themselves?

I put him there purely for his longevity. Having thought about it, I think Dave Whitcombe deserves his place in the top 20 rather than Beaton.

I don't know if Wade is ever considered a 'switcher' but how about Wayne Mardle? He did better than most.

World Matchplay final on debut. Two big finals in Vegas soon after. Loads of long runs on TV including 4xSF at the PDC Worlds. He was probably in the PDC top 10 for five years or so.

He may not have had great longevity but which other switcher (apart from the obvious) achieved as much as Mardle did? Someone like Burnett did sod all by comparison.

Wade did nothing of note in the BDO, neither did Wright.

I just went through and counted Total World Championship Wins (total Finals in brackets) from BDO until 1993 and PDC since 1994. There are 9 Multiple winners, plus Barney so I think it's pretty hard to argue that's not the Top 10 right there.

Maybe Bob Anderson or Peter Wright could be arguable in the lower spots.

Taylor 16 (21)
Bristow 5 (10)
Lowe 3 (8)
MvG 3 (5)
Priestley 2 (6)
Gary Anderson 2 (4)
Part 2 (3)
Lewis 2 (3)
Wilson 2 (2)
