Worth thinking about this now that the matchplay has made its final top 16 Shuffle.

Shitlock in a far worse position than i realized. Lewis has to be careful as if the bearded pillock does string some results together he is not in position on the pro tour. Some probable GP breakthroughs for Jose, Joyce, Clemens and Searle, with great potential for Divingboard, Petersen, Jeff Smith and Kleermaker to do it as well.

Some notables off the pace are Clayton, King, Brown, VVdV and Hendo. Amusingly Mitchell is closer to qualifying without a TC than Mcgeeney.

Thought Whitlock's run here would earn him a stay of execution, but in truth, for his general form over the last year, this is deserved. Hadn't even occurred to me that Adrian Lewis might be in trouble, not sure if it's even been confirmed how many events there are to go before the cut-off, but yes, he is sweating now. Some fucking resurgence this!

Good to see the new players involved, would be a good achievement for the likes of van Duijvenbode, Kleermaker and Smith to make it given the truncated season

Assume we'll get a "Autumn Series" week of 4/5 Players Champs in the run up to this which given their floor form would put the likes of Cullen and de Zwaan in trouble.

Sexy Steve hanging in there at 16.

He's only missed the Grand Prix 3 times since 2001, and that was when there were only 12 or 14 Pro Tour Qualifiers.

Clayton not in a qualifying spot is a surprise as well as he seems to do ok on the floor

They should use this as the chance to take it away from Dublin permanently, it's been going stale there for years. Might not be possible this year but fill he gap for now and move it to Holland next year, same format "Double Dutch".

What does this term stale mean in darts? I

Stale bread is obvious. You can feel it and taste it. Stale darts what is the criteria other than an event has been too long in the same place. And not sure that is a bad thing. Change for change alone is just fucking stupid.

The first 4 of the 7 nights in total have been poorly attended for a good few years and get worse in numbers and atmosphere as each year passes.

Yeah it's been at the same venue for ages, it's the middle of nowhere and the atmosphere is shit. It can stay in Dublin for all I care, but it does need to move away from the CityWest

People always been saying it should move to the Netherlands, and perhaps they deserve one of the bigger majors, although they have the World Series finals now at least (when there's no global pandemic anyway!)

I don't know what the attendance figures are as I have never seen them or recall what the ticket sales where. Hard to tell from TV the difference in the crowds over the years especially given the changes in lighting. In recent years at the majors the back i.e. crowd lighting at the CityWest in particular has been much better. I wouldn't disagree that there might be small drop in numbers over the last two years but would argue it isn't conclusive from looking at TV.

I was mainly interested in what stale meant specifically in this case. I don't have much of an argument with moving this one, and certainly wouldn't be surprised if they could get a better paying audience from the Dutch.

That's probably three times the size of Ally Pally. I don't think a massive arena is the solution for a week-long event, unless they tuck it away in a side room.

It has far less tables than Ally Pally but a barrage of seats around the outside. I thought it was quite small in comparison to other venues I've been to. But it also isn't in the middle of nowhere like the CityWest.

Would Butlins not make sense. Could easily social distance and the pro tours before if they still wanted them could be in the room these use for the multi boards at uk open

I know nothing but I guess they'd need to fill an unlikely number of those outer seats or the shit atmosphere problem would probably get worse. It isn't a problem for me anyway, but then I usually watch with the volume off, so =D

It's an unsatisfying TV experience for sure but the CityWest numbers clearly work out well for the PDC or they'd have moved on ages ago. That's not something to throw away lightly when you're flogging a full week's worth of some funny game.

You lot will think I am taking the piss, but the O2 sideroom would be a decent venue for the Grand Prix in future years.

It's capacity is ideal for a week-long event.
