Re: Random Dart Stuff
That took some guts by those players. Everything was risked for the future of professional darts, and loads of different types of pressure put on them. I wonder where darts would be now if they hadn't signed that statement, had been broken emotionally or financially by the BDO, or had lost in court? John Lowe said the term "the split" didn't do it justice, and should have been called "the five-year war".

Re: Random Dart Stuff
Mike Gregory cracked when he was threatened with losing his house (he had a mortgage), although he didn't speak a word to the other rebel players about this before going back to the BDO, which made Eric Bristow (his room mate) pissed off enough to ostracize Gregory for well over a decade. Gregory going back to the BDO was in late November 1993, just days after he won the 1993 Lada UK Masters on TV (Gregory also won it in 1992), and about 4 weeks before the 1994 (the first) WDC World Championship would start at the Circus Tavern. The pressure exerted on the WDC by the BDO during those weeks was at its highest. Rumours of Alan Warriner going back in that period after Sky had said following Gregory's defection "one more defection and it's all off", but Warriner held firm. John Lowe and Jocky Wilson later picketed the opening two days of the 1994 Embassy at Lakeside, saying that the real World Championship was taking place at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.
John Lowe was on the ball with it again when he said, in advance, that rebel players would likely be sent letters individually from the BDO claiming "breach of contract" to get them all panicking about "what have we signed in the past?" as the BDO tried to break their solidarity. "If we stay calm, we'll have a chance", Lowe said, from his autobiography. Sure enough, the BDO sent many rebel players such a letter, but not Lowe funnily enough.
Phil Taylor has often told the story of how his cousin, a superleague darts player, was told not to associate with Phil, nor to fit a door at Phil's house, or he'd be banned from all BDO sanctioned darts, which included superleague, and also county for the county players. Basically a blacklist from darts for the rebels, escept among each other.
Chris Johns went back to the BDO first, in June 1993, to play in a Welsh international game, but that was before the WDC had a TV deal with Sky and before the Circus Tavern World Championship and Winter Gardens World Matchplay tournaments were official. Gregory, on the other hand, went back to the BDO at a very critical time which is why he got much greater criticism. And after Johns played in that Welsh international, it's like he disappeared from the darts world.

Re: Random Dart Stuff
What's the closest we've got in the tour card era to a non-card holder winning the Worlds? That is from the 2012 edition onwards.
not a girl
