Big Bucks Bullseye?

The creator of classic darts-based game show Bullseye is in talks to produce an American version, featuring a jackpot of a cool $1 million.

Andrew Wood, who owns the rights to the show, has apparently impressed the Los Angeles-based Gurin Company - makers of the US version of the Weakest Link - with his plans to take it stateside.

“In the original format, the players could gamble for a mystery star prize if they scored 101 or more, but they could also lose it all,” said Wood. “This version would have another option: Bully’s Million Dollar Jackpot.”

Contestants would have to score 401 or more with nine darts to qualify for the prize, a tough ask even for a professional - but the new format would mean they wouldn’t go home empty-handed either.

“It’s a fresh take on the show,” added Wood. “And if they don’t win the big money, they will still walk away with a cash prize so there will be no ‘here’s what you could have won’ moment.”

The show is yet to get the green light but Wood is positive about its chances: “Phil Gurin and I met in London and he loved the show,” he said.

The fact that The American Darts Association has also endorsed the idea could be good news, too – the US is home to more than 18 million darts players.

Hosted by Jim “super, smashing, great” Bowen, Bullseye ran on ITV between 1981 and 1995, pulling in audiences of up to 19 million and making a household name of mascot Bully the bull.

In 2005, a Channel 4 poll named it The Ultimate Game Show.

Revived in 2006 by game show channel Challenge, Bullseye was this time hosted by comedian Dave Spikey but ran for just two series.

401 is a big ask. they got to expect their dosh to be fairly safe. 140, 140, 121 needed.

A very big ask but if it gets darts going again in the States after the Vegas Classic was dropped it can't be a bad thing

the top prize I suspect would be a genuine bona fide star prize with a 401 challenge, unlike the star prize in britain with a caravan or boat for some bloke who lives in a council flat in bolton

"..The fact that The American Darts Association has also endorsed the idea could be good news, too –..."

listened to the andrew wood interview today and he said the outgoing president of the american darts organization, the ado,
has endorsed the idea and there are links and references to the bullseye show on the ado site, while the american
darts association, the ada, has nothing in regards to the wood or his show. leads me to believe the press release may be
flawed as one would think wood would have mentioned the ada's endorsement on the show along with the ado if they had
in fact endorsed it also.

he has signed a deal with gurin, but that doesn't mean the show will go forward.
