Where is this idea coming from that the PDC is going to financially back the WDF? Hearn said they would give advice. Don't recall him saying they would give money.
Where did i mention money?
You didnt but without capital all the good advice and goodwill doesnt mean shit. What magic beans are the WDF going to trade for TV time and prize funds? Without those things what is the point of having the tour? Playing for country? WDF already asks the players to lose money once a year for national pride.

The 'end of season championship' may have no name, qualification criteria, venue, broadcaster or anything else... but at least it isn't the BDO, right?
We don't want the Double-U-Dee-Eff to inherit the BDO's reputation. Now come on.
The hard work continues in establishing two brand new major events for the end of the season as an incentive for players throughout the WDF circuit and we look forward to announcing full details in the coming weeks.

I have endless faith in you oche.
What do you expect/want to be the name of this 'end of season championship'? It's a big call as it will affect attitudes.

"It will be at Lakeside"

Any title that sounds like an attempt to rival the PDC Worlds would be problematic in some ways but the true jumbo crayon up the BDO's backside is/was of course the word 'Professional'. We'll all be relieved to see that go.
I don't see them dodging the word 'World' tbh. 'WDF World [Darts] Championship' is what I expect but would prefer something lighter. It's time to chill.

Agreed. If they manage to have a relatively successful amateur world darts championship come January 2021 then genuinely well done to them.

The opening post was originally in the BDO Appreciation Society thread because I'm an idiot and it was decided to split it out.

The WDF didn't need this when it was trying to establish itself as the main players in the amateur/semi-pro game. It could have some pretty damaging effects on the game lower down for years to come. Having said that, can Corona Virus do as much damage to the amateur/semi-pro game as the incompetence of the BDO has done for years?

She can be announced as the Acropolis Open winner for a bit longer.

Yeah, it's the worst timing imaginable. Especially with the first three months having gone relatively issue free by their standards (the West Fries shambles aside, but that was out of their hands). The Jacklin Travel Agency on the other hand just don't care unless it's Torremolinos/Northern Cyprus.

I just wonder if there's going to be anything much for semi-pros to go back to once Corona Virus dissipates. Because the game as a whole needs decent semi-pros to bloody the pros noses and provide a tough school of hard knocks for the upcoming kids.

Completely agreed. A system like the WDF needs to exist for the semi-pro player who can't commit / isn't good enough for the truly professional circuit. I genuinely want to see this new system work, but with what's happened it'll be some achievement if it does.

They're going to need the PDC to step in and provide a lot of help now, and I'm not sure Hearn is bothered enough about being officially sanctioned to do that.
