The BDO youth champs has way less prestige without a doubt. That's pretty much a fact. I think the age limit could be 21 but it's not a "mockery" to have it at 23. Dart players play until their 40s or 50s easily so you can't compare it to most other sports.
The BDO World Youth Championship is more akin to the JDC World Championship anyway (both of which are held by Barry lol). Naturally you'll get guys with a tour card who demolish the Development Tour, but who aren't quite the finished article on the main tour, meanwhile there are talented players their age who really haven't kicked on yet. Of course you don't even have to be young enough Development Tour to kick on, Aspinall lost his tour card and spent a year in the relative wilderness before winning it back and exploding

Eh? No obsession at all, this event has always been a cross code event. I accept that in recent years some of the BDO players haven’t really done well and you could argue they shouldn’t have been there. I think me stating 4 players out of a field of 32 isn’t an obsession or a contrary opinion.
Clearly the PDC have split mine and your opinion down the middle and given 2 places. You say I have an obsession yet I bet you watched more BDO darts than me. I used to watch the worlds and that was it and I may have seen some of the masters in the last few years when Duzza beat McGeeney.

I don’t think the PDC youth event does have more prestige. I don’t know how old you are Thorn but when you were 23 you wouldn’t have been considered a youth. It’s ridiculous that someone like Humphries should be allowed to play.
No one gave a shit about the BDO one. Do you think people even remember or talk about who won those? Because I see the likes of Hopp, Dimitri, Humphries, or the fact MVG lost twice in the final get plenty of discussion. People only talked about the BDO youth because two outstanding young talents played in the last one. Many of the finalists in recent years like Heffernan, Richardson, Girvan are complete no marks in all fairness.

As for what youth is, there are different definitions. The UN defines youth as 15-24. I'd say that's a pretty respectable source. Considering how darts differs from other sports like I said before, I don't think having the age limit at 23/24 is ridiculous.

I'd still be eligible, for the PDC event anyway :D

Leighton Bennett I believe will be the future of darts. Imagine him v Price in 3 or 4 years. I’m guessing he might not be too popular with some on here.
Only one way to decide what the age limit should be for the world youth title

You got it right, I think Bennett is a prick. People always say about Price and co. that we don't want robots on the oche. Well this is exactly what this new generation seems to be, robots shouting after every single 140 and having little respect for the opponent or the game.

I know, but they had a Masters last year and that winner would normally be in this years slam. Next year we will have to see what the WDF come up with.

Dave Whitcombe won it twice and you don’t think he is all time top 20 😉

Whilst it is easy to have a go at the likes of Price and Bennett, you are correct in that we don’t want robots. I love a bit of controversy, be it stage antics or an after the match interview. Darts has always had its characters and as long as they don’t blatantly cross the line eg a player shouts ‘C0ck’ when his opponent is throwing then a bit of shenanigans is good in my book.
I’ve said this before, there will come a day when it will kick off on stage with a bit of shoving and pushing Im not saying a full on fist fight but it’s going to kick off one day.

Well Lewis did grab that player in the floor event. Ive not heard of Wade coming close to a physical altercation. There are other more vociferous players who I could see getting involved In A bit of shoving.

Nothing wrong with controversy but these young players are just pretty much copying the likes of MVG and Price. It's not interesting at all. I want different characters, not carbon copies of the same one
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.
