Certainly be no bdo jobbers
So if it was upto you Randall how would you decide the places? Let’s assume the WDF world title happens and they also revive the Masters. How many places would you give to the WDF players?
Zero
Wow !
So you dispute Warren and Suzuki’s place in the GSOD ?
Do they deserve it really?

If the WDF things would end up providing people like Jimbob, Mitchell and Parletti then the PDC may as well use their own Challenge Tour rankings as they're all on the tour. It's a PDC world now. There's no such thing as 'cross-code' anymore so my answer is: none.

I accept there should be some criteria but for the world number 4 to miss out is ludicrous. On the BDO side, wasn’t there some controversy as Waites missed out one year due to their criteria.
What’s next years criteria? Billy Jobber wins the Ipswich open farting competition and wins a place at the GSOD ?
Don't be ridiculous now. The rankings matter fuck all in this context, the criteria has always been pretty much the same. Someone like Lewis had to do practically nothing for years to get into Worlds, Matchplay, Grand Prix etc. The top players in the rankings are already well protected and the 2 year ranking system also works heavily in their favour. They don't need to be shoehorned into the Grand Slam too. If that's your argument I'd rather take a look at how Lewis managed to stay at number 4 without winning fuck all. If you don't manage to qualify for the GSOD, I'm pretty sure you are not one of the world's best 4 players.
The Home Tour shouldn't have got a place imo but the other qualifiers are ranking events. Makes perfect sense really. The issue is not them qualifying, it's the floor qualifier jobbers. But even if that was scrapped or reduced I'd much prefer the event winners and finalists to fill up the places. As I said top of the rankings is already overprotected. It's the same as Ando not qualifying for the European Champs. I don't give a shit if he's world number one or two, if he can't be arsed playing the events he shouldn't be in the main event. Having tournaments with diverse qualifying criteria is a huge asset. Allows for more players to come through, more variety but at the same time it's totally on merit and performance based. It also makes the tournaments unique.

I don’t think my opinion is ridiculous. I agree there should be opportunities for others but for me it makes it better when the so called big boys are in.
As this was originally a cross code event that gave it a boi more excitement. Certainly in the early days the BDO did well and it seemed their players loved playing in the event ( especially Waites)
Whilst I accept with the BDO being defunct you cannot have 4 representatives from them. I do think 4 would be fair.
I disagree with people saying zero and to me it’s just because of the organisation.

It's a pdc event for pdc winners
Bdo players were only ever invited as a tool to bring over the bdo "elite"
There is now no bdo and no elite anyway.

Based on what this event has been about, they deserve it more than say a couple of qualifiers from floor events.
As the respective world champions of the BDO yes they should be allowed to play. It’s not their fault what has happened to the organisation.
Okay I’ll throw this one at you. If the PDC said tomorrow that from next year it is PDC players only and Warren went to to win the GSOD ( very unlikely I know)
As the winner would he and should he be allowed to defend his title if he didn’t switch to the PDC?

yep. it was their incentive for the players to take it seriously I guess,
McInstry didn't want the slam spot apparently

Fair enough. I was convinced for some reason it was given as an after-thought.

I think Keane Barry could have been offered a spot as BDO youth champion. The BDO youth has more prestige than the PDC version which is a complete mockery the fact that somebody at 24 can win it.
To me youth should be under 18s or at a stretch U21

The BDO youth champs has way less prestige without a doubt. That's pretty much a fact. I think the age limit could be 21 but it's not a "mockery" to have it at 23. Dart players play until their 40s or 50s easily so you can't compare it to most other sports.

I don’t think the PDC youth event does have more prestige. I don’t know how old you are Thorn but when you were 23 you wouldn’t have been considered a youth. It’s ridiculous that someone like Humphries should be allowed to play.
