Just a shame that the BBC have chosen to show the world amateur darts championship instead of the snooker!
This is something the Fanatics don't get when they moan that snooker gets so much more coverage - all the best snooker players in the world play in the tournaments shown by the BBC. If all the best players buggered off to Sky, and left people hitting breaks of 70 odd, they'd be in the same situation. But they also think there's a divine right for darts to be on telly, forgetting what happened in the late 80s/early 90s, and exactly why the PDC exists.
That said, they seem more bothered about being able to meet players and have photos taken with them at tournaments. I find that just odd.

I read it for a few minutes, you wonder who they are trying to convince, themselves probably.

Which is the "Not sure if serious" smilie? Here's some selected highlights:

Please remove and stop all the negative comments about Tony Green. That man has done so much for darts in the last 40+ years, non of us have any right to criticise. No doubt there are some people on here who think he is just a commentator, but he has been and is so much more. What's more, tradition is very much what the Lakeside is all about and the Lakeside without Tony Green is like Christmas without a tree.
Deb Howlett
tony is a really nice bloke hes better than pdc commentators
Christopher Knight
I think he has the perfect voice for commentating on darts. Very mellifluous when the game just going on, but picks up at the key moments. Something the PDC commentators just can't get right (not that I ever make a point of watching PDC events, I must add.)
Christopher Knight
It reminds me of how nasty people got about Martin Fitzmaurice a couple of years ago. He was a BDO man through and through, and just because he told a few jokes that offended the easily offended, he was fed to the dogs, no thanks at all to all his years of dedication and loyalty to the BDO. I think Little Richard has come in and done a great job, but Lakeside isn't the same without Martin and as I said a few days ago on here, I would like to see both of them involved both as scorers and MCs.
Billy Jeffs
Martin was a victim of circumstance. Completely different.
Mark Farrell
I agree with Christopher. Tony is 100% BDO. He's not a young man so let's give him some leeway. Martin Fitzmaurice was another BDO man through and through. I honestly don't believe he is racist, he told jokes that were probably OK to his generation Martin Fitzmaurice had so much charisma and personality he was a great MC. The BDO reacted to pressure from guardian readers who had probably never seen a darts match. Going back to Tony he makes mistakes and is annoying with his "best of order" but he is missed when he's not there and has forgotten more than most of ustogether will probably ever know about the game
Jane Sear
Tony Green is part and parcel of lakeside and it wouldn't be the same with out him and he's a great ambassador for the darts .
Dean Cracknell
Tony green has done great for many years but I fear he be hounded out soon by the haters who understand nothing about tradition and loyalty

Well done to Scott, Trina and Joshua on winning the BDO World Championships Lakeside, Frimley Green also to Gary Anderson on a fantastic PDC World Championship . I have had an up and down experience but all in all have enjoyed the friendly atmosphere that the players and crowd produce. Respect is shown to all the players on the oche and although there are no 'Booing', 'Stand up if you love the darts' and shouting between the fans the atmosphere was electric. I keep reading about the comparisons between the 2 groups and yes there is a difference in averages but did Gary Anderson have to phone his work up to ask for an extra day off to go to an interview - me thinks not. The PDC produce what can only be described as the best darts on the tv - without question ( average wise ) but the Richard Veenstra vs Jeff Smith semi had me riveted to my seat right to the last double - both averaging 90. But remember this a large percentage of players will be going back to work this week and will squeeze a few hours of practice in during the week, the pdc top elite will be putting in 4-6hrs of practice in, to keep their game at the pinnacle of the performance.
The highest ever average in a BDO final has been 97.58, an average that would struggle at the PDC ranks, it's funny that the average was by the best ever player Phil Taylor, a player who has helped bring the sport of darts forward with the help of some many but please remember - I lived a dream this year and although did not perform my best, would not of wanted to miss this experience - the BDO allows us county/superleague players a chance to live a dream - things are looking up and with encouragement and support, creases will be ironed out but one thing will never change - we play and watch darts because we love the game - embrace both organisations and lets stop comparing them

But it's his own organistion - the BDO themselves - who invite the comparison by calling Lakeside 'The World Professional Darts Championship'... Does Darren Peetoom seriously expect people to watch a tournament with that name and not compare it to the PDC World Darts Championship? People aren't daft. They watch Lakeside, see what it is, feel bullshitted by what it claims to be, and react badly. Call the event 'The Lakeside Classic' and the comparisons stop instantly.
