The thing is with the modus muck is it won’t work for everyone, it’s invite only so that works for people like Edgar as he’s popular, but if he doesn’t get to the finals night on Saturday nor qualifies for champions week how much money does he get? Can’t be that much

On reflection for him with his opportunity to do a bit of commentary he probably will end up making more in 2023 off the tour than on it, just disappointing to see someone give up on their career in their early 30s

Reminds me of low-grade players back in 2014 who did the "why should anyone want a tour card now when the new Challenge Tour will be much cheaper to play on" thing.

And the result will be the same as then, too - prize money on the Pro Tour will keep rising, everywhere else it's going to stagnate (including Modus), and any notion of finding a better deal than the tour card will soon just be a vaguely amusing memory.

It's very unlikely we'll see him on Sky though as he's too obscure and not tight with Mardle/Part/Webster etc.

Maybe with Dawson etc on the Euro Tour or doing Seniors shit on BT

Yeah, if Edgar wants to be the next Nicholson, fair play to him. But I don't consider Nicholson much of an active professional darts player anymore, and Edgar won't be either, which will make his "my motivation is that 65-128 ranked players don't have enough opportunities" angle rather disingenuous.

Forgetting the logic for a second though, I just don’t see how anyone below 45 who averages mainly around 87-89 but can average in the high 90s on occasion (which is essentially Edgar) wouldn’t want to be on the tour and have that dream of qualifying for all the big tournaments, I feel like every dog/jobber has their day and there’s no reason players of that ilk can’t go on a run in a tournament, just look at some of the players we’ve seen in pro tour finals this year, or making the Sunday on a ET.

Everyone is beating everyone this year and you may have a tough couple of months here and there i just feel the opportunities in the PDC are too good to miss out on for capable players

Exactly, but Edgar is shite!
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

All it takes is 3 months of form and you can make the Worlds comfortably regardless of how much of a jobber you are

See Jason Heaver/Barstow last year

Ritchie Edhouse, Miss Keegan, probably Zonneveld this year

Was it Edgar that said something about if he was not in the top 8 or 10 of the challenge tour o.o.m after so many events then he would bin them off? I remember someone saying something like that at the start of the year.

He will be getting paid more regularly so I guess why that's the decision. Bit of comms, bit of other darts events.
Works well if he gets enough bookings. There is a lot of demand for comms people at the moment.
It's guaranteed money.

Fuck sake..We will be ending up with a Phil Bra's and Oche Bellblower double act on commentary.

Yep in his Q-school video he said that. I think he is just trying to get his name in the spotlight for media work as he knows he is never gonna be a good enough to be a professional dart player.

I would say it was more the case where he has thought that if he was not in a certain place in the o.o.m at a certain time then there was little or no chance of gaining a tour card via the Challenge Tour and perhaps already had irons in the fire so to speak with other work or plans to prepare differently for Q-School that just competing on the Challenge Tour.

He isn't going to Q school till 2024 is what he is saying. Basically he is saying he can make the same money or more playing Modus and WDF than a player of his ability having a tour card.

He also think players wont go to Q-School and even some will even give their cards up. I personally think he is talking absolute shit.

£1 for a game of pool in 1996?
I very much doubt that.

DeepFriedRat wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2022 7:39 pm So now we know who the "big name" Barrs was on about... Not only is Edgar a complete pussy but he's also a mong. A different sort of mong to the mushrooms. At least with WDF players, they're only part-time and play super league during the week etc. They've got a job which might prevent them from going pro. However, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Edgar's only job darts now, playing CT/Modus Muck and YouTube/journalism, after packing in the teaching? So wtf, just play Modus in 2023 and that's it? He's based in England and EuroTours are easy money if you make them so I don't understand him at all. Not like he's a Klaasen or a Chas Barstow who play literally every event running, CT, WDF, Modus, Associate Qualifiers, even that mickey mouse MAD/ADC/Cunt Brown belt shite. Anyone who thinks they'll earn more at Modus than as a midcarder jobber strikes me as someone who doesn't believe they're good enough for the PDC. Don't want to see him at the Challenge Tour now because if you play that but aren't willing to accept the rewards/go to Q School, then you're a scrounger.

Edgar is a sports coach as well. At the end of the day, Tour Cards are only great value for the top 32. People have tried and never got to that level if they want to take a step back and lose their tourcard and earn money on the Super Series plus TV time via the WDF Masters/Worlds. Good for them. Things are alternative now without losing sight of the PDC being the big guys. Edgar can produce content that he wants (PDC stop bits of that) as well.

The Pro Tour money has risen over the last few years. And now more people are saying the same. With the COL crisis is tougher
