Nicholson confirms playing return: “It is the right time for me to give it a test and see where I’m at”

Paul Nicholson lost his Tour Card in early 2019 but barring a stint at Q-School had stayed away due to various injuries and his commentary career.

He said to Online Darts that he will play in the Live League and has earmarked a portion of the year to do so and see where he’s at.

“It’s only been agreed over the last 24 hours. I had a chat with the Live League organisers and we talked about the availability come the summer. I will be back to commentate the World Matchplay,” he said to Online Darts.

“The right time for me to crack on is September so when we go to Budapest with the European Tour, the following week I’m not doing Jena. It is the right time for me to give it a test and see where I’m at but before then I’ll expose myself to a couple of uncomfortable situations whether it’s a local open or playing online.”

“We’ll make the adjustments going into the later part of the season.”

Nicholson also spoke on a myriad of topics including the Premier League format and said he’s not writing it off yet as he believes it needs time.

“I was at the start, seeing players going head to head six or seven times doesn’t sit great with me but I understand the concept of having a tournament a night. It’s suited certain people, it’s certainly suited Jonny Clayton. I think it’s been perfect for Michael van Gerwen because we’ve seen what it’s done for his Euro Tour form.

“We need to see this for 2 or 3 seasons to see the intricacies with it. I’m going to wait over the course of time to see if this works long term but I’m still unsure.”

If it gets him off comms it is OK with me
