MVG was around the elite at 06-07 but dropped off. There is no evidence of Littler doing the same.

However, that initial spell of greatness was short-lived. He spent his first 5 seasons in the PDC (2007-2011) on the border of the top 32 in the OOM, and didn't make the QF stage of any PDC TV events during that timeframe. It was in 2012 where he made the breakthrough that led to sustained greatness.

Thus far, it appears that Littler is the first player of that age to not only reach such a high level, but also sustain it.
This is, of course, all true. But it doesn't relate to Oche's ill-judged point, which said that Littler's success at this age was 'one in a million' and that no-one has ever 'joined the elite' at this point. MvG took a good while to stay there, but he certainly 'joined' it in 2006.

Van goblin was a bit lucky that wolfie hadn't matured yet In 2006.

Weren't they all? :D He was clearly considered 'part of the elite ' at that time, though. He went into the 2007 Embassy as favourite, back when that tournament actually meant something still, for example.

Oche knows he made an ill-judged point. It's all good.

Oh aye, MVG had wins over Taylor and Barney during that period.

He also had a game with Barney at the 2007 Masters of Darts where they both averaged over a ton over ten sets.

Precisely. I'm not suggesting for a moment that MvG then was better than Littler is right now. He wasn't. But Oche, a staunch BDO man, got himself all excited and made a daft post. That's all.

I have a vague memory of watching MVG beat King to win a BDO event on Eurosport around 2006. I only remember that game because there was a water cooler on stage and King moaned like fuck that MVG was making too much noise while using it.

Sadly as DartsDatabase is down I cannot track which event it was.

He won the Modus Super Series on 8 May 2023, just over a year ago.

What's your definition of sustain?
