They have to go with vaguely competent options surely?
Ranked players picking up money based on beating retirees wont sit well with those not lucky to draw one and potentially impacting their career

Any invites just turn it into a glorified Premier League, fucking terrible idea, if you don't qualify, you don't play.

The only 2 non tour card holders that would be acceptable are Portela and Edhouse. Edhouse for coming 2nd on the challenge tour oom and Portela for being the highest ranked South American on the oom.

If they shoehorn non TC holders in then they might as well ignore the under 16 rule as well and get Leighton Bennett in

If they are giving out invites, then on the one hand you could give it to the next 8 on the list who should have qualified, which is a bit boring to be honest. Or you can think of the tv viewership and invite people who the public will know and the more casual dart fan is going to tune in and watch.
Let’s be honest, somebody with only a passing interest in darts is more likely to tune in and see the likes of Barney play than say Henderson ( who they most likely won’t have heard of)
I think the idea of getting someone like John Lowe in is a great idea as a one off. It’s likely to generate more interest/more tv viewers. The players on tour have had their opportunity all year to qualify.
I’d rather John Lowe get a decent payday than some player just missing out as John Lowe has done more for darts and didn’t have the luxury of the huge purses available today ( with the exception of his £102,000 for hitting the 9 darter in 1984)
It’s About money and creating interest in the sport.
What was the biggest story in darts last year? Fallon Sherrock. I knew people who have no interest in darts know about her and what she did at the worlds.
What would make a bigger story and get more viewers?
John Lowe winning a couple of matches or John Henderson?

Why not have a couple of places every year for a former legends of the game? Didn’t they have a legends event a few years ago ( won by Dave Whitcombe I think)
Why not reignite that and say the winner and runner up gets a place at the worlds ?

No one disputes all of that Jack but this is the world championship. The fairest thing would be to invite players from the places where they would have had a qualifier. Those wouldn't be wildcards but simply implementing the qualifying criteria
