Same here.

He's a fresh face with bags of potential. It's a shame that he's also an utter twerp.
I did like him before the grand prix.
I'm also trying to like Cadby........

He's a hun which wouldn't make him the most popular person in Dublin though I doubt very much many in that crowd would have cared. Tends to be the old bigots that carry on that shit

Gurney's generation generally don't care. He has said in an interview before, or perhaps it was Dolan, that in the darts world, it doesn't matter. Rightly so, I don't want to go back to that nonsense.

It doesn't matter now outside of old bigots.

My old man was from the North and of the generation that really got caught up in it. For the sake of all including themselves the bigots have to move on but sadly many won't. Serves their agenda portraying themselves as victims, they taught the Scousers well

Irish history is riddled with the victimhood attitude. Not that long ago I was reading a fascinating book which dealt with the historic causes of the troubles written by a scholar called Professor Marianne Elliott. In it, she speaks a lot about Irish Catholics and the need they seem to have for being victims which is interesting considering she is an Irish Catholic herself, ironically working in Liverpool.

It seems to be an attitude engrained in the fabric of being Irish, Northern or Southern. Something unlikely to go away which stems right back to the plantation. A shame. A humble goat herder like myself wants no part in it despite being brought up in a staunch loyalist household.

Everyone thinks they are the victim, and it makes a great rallying cry for a cause to paint yourself the victim. The founding fathers of America, especially the fine gentlemen of Virginia loved to paint themselves as victims to taxes, the British Crown and generally any non Virginian who held an opinion different to their own. They loved to compare their plight as to that of a slave. Personally I think their slaves might have disagreed that being a Twit in chains working a ho in a field thru all the seasons in rags was slightly more oppressive than say paying some taxes when your the wealthiest 1% in the colonies.

Now you're talking about perspective and your point is totally spot on. There's no comparison whatsoever

Seems Gurney taking a hit on social media and the darting press (if we can call a bunch of darting bloggers the press). As his popularity shrinks in the public eye I like the cunt even more. Don't care if it was intentional or not and it doesn't seem shitlock cared much either as they were pretty chummy afterwards.

People are going to interpret the incident with their own bias coming into play, they like Gurney they won't see much in it, they don't like him they will see it as aggro. Either way who gives a fuck it is what makes sport fun, the human drama from the players and the fans. Love to hate a player a good a reason to root against someone as the reason to root for a player because we are born on the same soil.

Was someone here not long ago refused to root for a player or team from his home soil whilst rooting for players and teams from his home soil. Took a bit of working out

I think most people were probably indifferent about Gurney and this incident turned everyone against him.
What he did was plain wrong, hopefully never acts like this again.

But at the same time I think the internet overreacted to this. Look at Taylor's antics all year, and he didn't get half of the abuse Gurney did.

It's a fucking shame this had to happen, especially in this tournament. Gurney has done a damn fine job winning a big PDC major and hardly anyone is giving him credit because of the shoulder incident, to which people have overreacted, and slowing the play down with retrieving his darts (They ever seen Lakeside champ Scott Mitchell or Brendan Dolan?)

People saying they won't watch the PL with Gurney with him. Grow a thicker skin FFS. These are not darts fans.

Something about Cadby and Gurney though........they just don't come across to me as utter fucking cunts like that Belgian chipmunk does. Maybe it's because they can actually back up their antics with top class darts.

Yes it did, but no it didn't. It didn't because it was trolling and there is no sense to it but to incense.
Yes it did because it worked, the target was seething publicly and it made me laugh so good enough for me.
I don't see who you root for as a moral position. For me I wouldn't even make a judgement about your patriotism based on who you root for. I prefer Heavy Metal from England over that from America does that mean I am less patriotic? I prefer British sitcoms over American ones does that mean I am less patriotic?

It is all entertainment and a sports team doesn't have the better ability to say represent the ideals and culture of the country than say art, literature, or music. and in fact obviously it is the art forms that have a greater ability to communicate the ideals and define the culture in a distinct manner of expression. The sports teams only do these things because we as observers bring some romanticized notion of the importance of sport to prove a nations exceptionalism via domination of another in a contest. It isn't about ideals it is about the win and who got it and who didn't. My guy beats your guy in a contest what does that say about the ideals that I support as a patriotic citizen of a country? Nothing
