Arthur Lowe died. Star of Dad's Army and voice of the Mr Men.

He was on BBC Pebble Mill being interviewed hours before his death where he was quite clearly feeling unwell. BBC blocked the interview on YouTube

I watched the rules. The cue ball must hit the apex red from the break, and at least 4 balls have to hit cushions/pockets. So you have to smash it.
