On current form he appears to be a very good bet at Ally Pally. I’ve a feeling Gary Anderson will have a very good tournament too. Naturally I’m hoping ‘Wadey’ does and it’s good he appears to be hitting some form again.ChrisW wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 11:47 pmTotally agree. Can not understand why he became so unlikeable. Not in any way an arsehole to other players. Banking on him for the title at Ally Pally.

This is the quote, I don't agree with all of it, but at the time (Dec 2022) A lot of it was true, but you have already made your mind up clearly based on seeing him in recent majors, which is fine. I'd honestly found him unbearable up until the last few months where he seems to have a cut out a big chunk of the headshakingHalloweenJack wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 11:43 pmIt would be good if you could, as to me he comes across as a decent humble bloke that happens to be very good at darts.TheMalteseDart wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 9:11 pmDFR made a very accurate and comprehensive list of reasons why he's dislikable, will try and find it

- Horrible facial expressions when it goes wrong. Believes he should hit a 180 every go and commits to faces worse than anything Bellyboy has done and headshaking only second to Barney.
- Is vastly overrated thus far on tv. Has had ons great game on tv, vs MVG in the UK Open in 2021, with the rest, prior to November 2022, either being mediocre runs or first round exits. He's in good form now admittedly but your ranking is based off 2 years, not 6 months.
Terrible Attitide Sub Section
- Most egotistical player in darts right now, even worse than Barney. Has the ego of someone who's been around for years and has only been "elite", if you can even call him that, for about 6 months.
- Attention-seeker. Ruins players' moments in tournament winning interviews by hogging the limelight. Gatecrashed Cross and Josh Rock's PC wins interviews this year (the latter's first ever), despite it not being protocol for the runner up to join in. No other player does this.
- Disingenuous. Although he is an okay loser, but mainly with his friends or young players, he never gives selfless praise to someone lower than him, without giving credit to himself. See an interview given about Rock, where he says "he'll be around for many years...and so will I"
- Extremely self-entitled. Has been moaning about getting into the Premier League ever since the bone was thrown to him as a contender in 2019, which was when he was significantly outside the top 32.
- Smug about his personal life. Never ceases to remind everyone how lucky he is for his family in a way that comes off as rubbing your face in it, rather than genuine.
- Deliberately admits to disrespecting his opponents during matches. Has made comments akin to Wade vs Asada, where he beat DVD R1 of 2021 WGP, "I beat him and I wanted to make him know he'd lost".
Other
- His ranking (largely due to the Euro Tour and a UK Open final soon to be binned), means he's significantly overrated on the OOM and imo doesn't deserve the credit and status he receives. His record in his first two full years of the "majors" is either inconsistent at best and mediocre at worst. In other words, he's got to #5 by only getting to one tv ranking final and that was ages ago.

The joining in interviews and taking the limelight off the winners will always irk me though, sometimes there’s people who don’t have bad intentions but just come across a bit self centred and can’t let others have their momentsDeepFriedRat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:48 amI'll hold my hands up here but he has grown up a lot the past year, with some of these aging badly.TheMalteseDart wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:04 amThis is the quote, I don't agree with all of it, but at the time (Dec 2022) A lot of it was true, but you have already made your mind up clearly based on seeing him in recent majors, which is fine. Re: 2023 Grand Slam Of Darts
There will come a day when one player in that situation will just walk off or ask the interviewer who they are interviewing, In the past I had it at a place I worked where one other member of staff would constantly try and take over the staff meetings, I was being asked about staff performance levels and she decided to take over and put her opinion in cutting off what I was trying to say so I picked up my jacket and fags and walked outside, Manager said...'Where are you going Dave?' I said...Well you don't need my input so im off for a fag while gob almighty updates you.TheMalteseDart wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:55 amThe joining in interviews and taking the limelight off the winners will always irk me though, sometimes there’s people who don’t have bad intentions but just come across a bit self centred and can’t let others have their momentsDeepFriedRat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:48 amI'll hold my hands up here but he has grown up a lot the past year, with some of these aging badly.TheMalteseDart wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:04 amThis is the quote, I don't agree with all of it, but at the time (Dec 2022) A lot of it was true, but you have already made your mind up clearly based on seeing him in recent majors, which is fine. Best player in the world on recent form.
I think he's currently favourite to win the worlds and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he does. Still, Ally Pally is a long tournament and there are a good few players very capable of beating him if he has an off-game.
Which is why I would put his chances of winning it this year at less than 50%.

Mind you, in a 96 player field with a number of experienced champions in the field in the longest format of them all, he'd really have to go some to have a more than 50% chance! If he's 9/2, doesn't that mean the bookies think he has an 18% chance of winning?sennafan24 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 8:31 am+1

Not in any way an arsehole to other players. Banking on him for the title at Ally Pally.
Wade’s best form in recent years was just before he had that attack in Germany. He was posting consistently high averages.
Hope he does well at the Worlds, but on current form I don’t see it.
