Why were they booing him? He is hardly offensive and doesn’t do anything from what I can see what would antagonise a crowd.

I liken it to going to an all-you-can-eat buffet.

He entered the 2016 PDC worlds as the 17th seed, but his year end ranking in 2015 was 16th. That's his highest year end ranking to date.

Otherwise, he's always been ranked between 17th and 24th at year's end.
