Really special one. Gurney's face when the bull goes is absolutely priceless then he goes full Winstanley. MVG at peace with it too. Anderson would probably have kicked him to death then hello twitter.

Price has been playing really well though both before and after the Slam as well. He has White or West in the last 16, that's as easy as it gets probably.cidermaster wrote:Price will not get past the last 16 in the Worlds, but Gurney will take some stoppingThe Thorn wrote:Gurney and Price meet in the final for the ultimate cunt fest. Re: 2018 Players Championships
Chris Mason asked when we last had a year like 2018 for multiple major winners. It was 2012. In 2012, we had Taylor, Lewis, Thornton, Whitlock, van Gerwen and Barney winning the TV majors. In 2018, we've had Cross, van Gerwen, Anderson, Wade, Price and Gurney winning the TV majors.

I did spare a thought for him he's missed a special final, no doubt tomorrow he will be seething at the sheer certainty of the classic he was bound to miss!Rogg wrote:Presenters are HYPER. Darts really is bouncing. Thanks to Randall for going to bed, cheers Randy xx

Re: 2018 Players Championships
PL going to be a tough choice for bazza now..
And to think we were complaining about most of the top 10 playing crap a couple of months ago.
Crusty and cross probably the most out of sorts in the top 10 now which could really open up the bottom half of the ally pally draw .

As it is, he holds the same number as Cross, Wade, Price and Gurney. Remarkable enough.Mothy wrote:If Wright had played his part there, van Gerwen would not have won a single ranking TV title all year.Rogg wrote:The number of players in the last few weeks just doing the ugly stuff, digging in for the hell of it any circumstances.
Don't want to bring up Wright at the Grand Prix final again but this is exactly what he should have done. Could the contrast between that final and this one be any greater?
If only.

Re: 2018 Players Championships
PDC darts has been building to this moment for some time. I think it really is a changing of the guard, out with the old. i.e relying on BDO switchers to bring in new contenders as well as that generation of players from Taylor, Barney, etc... And in with the new, that is the PDC developing players on their own tours.
I think darts is set to do just fine over the next few years. Would be great if we see the likes of Wade and Lewis also bounce back. Respectively only 35 and 33 so they have a few years left. Gando keeps talking about ending it, he very well may be at the point of talking himself out of the game and that is a shame as he truly is a quality player.

Re: 2018 Players Championships
In European football, for U21 competitions, you need to be 21 or under at the start of the qualifiers, so a lot of the players are 23 by the time of the actual tournament. Not sure where I stand with this, obviously it's a bit strange that two players who are pretty well established on the tour are playing a youth final, but then again, it's a great springboard for young players who may have hit a rough patch. Payne (and to an extent Van den Bergh) didn't exactly pull up any trees last year, but has gone on to do good things since. Besides, darts isn't exactly like other sports, you can still burst on the scene in your 20s and you'll have plenty of time left in your careercannibal wrote:I agree with lump hammer mason, youth world champs needs to have the age criteria changed. The flemish deer in the headlights is 24 that isn't youth and shouldn't be youth in the PDC. At the most should be no older than 21 before the date of the final. Wouldn't this put in line with youth ages of footy and other sports?

Re: 2018 Players Championships
As long as the top 32 of the OOM are still almost completely devoid of players who are actually eligible for the Development Tour, the age limit is just fine. That tour is meant to help young players bridge the divide from being a barely regular main tour player (i.e. top 64 or less) to becoming TV regulars. Going back to under 21s only or even banning all top 64 players again would just turn the Dev Tour into the useless little brother of the Challenge Tour.
What they simply need to do is find a better name than World Youth Championship for the tour's showcase event. Nobody ever bothers to complain about the age limit unless they're set off by that name.

Re: 2018 Players Championships
In the 2014 season there were 6 too:PT13 wrote:Chris Mason asked when we last had a year like 2018 for multiple major winners. It was 2012. Lewis: UK Open
Barney: PL (WC with van Gerwen)
Taylor: Matchplay and Grand Slam
Van Gerwen: Grand Prix and Euros (WC with Barney)
Wade: Masters
Anderson: Players and 2015 Worlds
Feels an age away that, no World Series finals, no Champions League, and the Grand Slam was still unranked. Still, that title remains Lewis's last singles title on TV, and up until recently, the same could be said for Wade too

Re: 2018 Players Championships
I don't know how Daryl stayed in that game last night. Outscored for virtually all of it if not entirely. However he kept his nerve incredibly well. There is a fresh air sweeping over the darting universe. Very happy for Daryl and beating Michael in that fashion legitimises his win. Now no one can say that hew hasn't beaten an incredible player to land a title. Incredible stuff. Now on to the world's. Bring it on!
