I wouldn't disagree
I'm sure there are several pre-split world champions who didn't beat Bristow or Taylor along the way, nor did they beat any player who is now widely regarded as the top few of all-time. Does this reduce the value of their title for you?
I've just checked, and it does appear that every champion in the 80s beat Bristow or Lowe on their way to the title, or were Bristow or Lowe.
Extend this to the pre-split 1990s Lakesides too.

Taylor beat Bristow in 1990.

Priestley beat Bristow and Taylor in 1991.

Taylor beat Lowe in 1992.

Lowe won in 1993.
That's fun :) nobody knew about that.

I wonder what is the least glittery looking route to a world title. In terms of the opponents' names on paper rather than averages. Surely the vast majority have needed to beat at least one player who is conventionally regarded as all-time top 10 or so.
We have such a thread somewhere

It's been nice to have a decent discussion about darts on here.

No references to obscure jobbers, Sherrock, Michael Smith or James Wade either.

The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.
