Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
Patrick Bus now reporting from another source that the African qualifier is going ahead, but behind closed doors to protect players who are banned, what a shitshow...

I don't think the PDC would normally report on averages unless they're readily available on DartConnect or LiveDarts tbfTheMalteseDart wrote:

John McDonald and the commentary team relieved at that final result

I found some results on Nakka from 2021 and his averages were around 77-84

Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
Standard fare I guess, with a fair wind might trouble some of the ProTour players (especially the likes of O'Shea and Gawlas if they hold on), but unlikely to go any further. Good to see another player get a chance though, who knows, maybe he can develop into a decent player

When Cameron Carolissen won this, he started off quite well against Noppert at Ally Pally, although tailed off and lost 3-1 IIRC

Good result for darts. Petersen had his time he is not needed anymore. Time for new younger players to take African darts to a new level. And it should be a concerted effort with all the countries not just in South Africa

Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
Petersen has had a weird career, was a jobber for a long time, almost dropped off the tour, then had a real purple patch winning titles and going deep into TV tournaments, and has now disappeared as quickly as he rose. I mean does anyone see someone like Mike De Decker or Jeff Smith winning a Euro Tour and reaching TV semis?

Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
As much as it is time for some new players to emerge from Africa, it's going to be very difficult for any one player to emerge considering that as far as I know, they don't really have their own tour going on, and they only get 2 shots at TV events all year. There always seems to be different players coming through each year, which is good in a way, it shows some level of depth, but it means that each player only gets a very fleeting experience of high level darts. Look at the Oceanians and North Americans, even at the Asians (albeit their progress has been checked of late), there have been some really positive signs from those regions as they've had more competitive steel-tip action and more exposure to the top players

Anyway, it will be all fun and games next Saturday with the Central/South American and the Ukrainian qualifiers! Next Sunday is the New Zealand qualifier too, which should be an interesting one as there are a few decent players down there!

Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
CT could be anyone, so unpredictable
It won't be Plaisier or Kenny Neyens though as they're at the ET in Gibraltar.
Probably any 2 from Owen, Van Trijp, Pallett and Burton

Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
Neyens and Plaisier might be able to make a mad dash to Leicester, especially if they get knocked out early, although they have ground to make up, and if they do have to miss a day, it will be very very unlikely

Re: 2023 Greatest Show on Earth
Perhaps Jurjen van der Velde will secure a Worlds spot, he's got momentum from this weekend and will be playing under less pressure than most considering his tour card is (99.9%!) secure for the next two seasons
