Barney in Rotterdam
Hendo in Aberdeen

Two which spring to mind.

My first consistent watch of a tournament was the 2008 PL, it had some seriously iconic walk-ons, which put today's to shame. Maybe the best combined list of walk ons ever.

You had the tried and tested Taylor, Barney (When he was doing the "mean stare" with the angry eyes) and Lewis (doing his aggressive crowd high 5s and sprinting up steps lol ) songs. Plus Mardle's Hawaii Five 0 and assorted palm trees, TJ and Wooly Bully with his bully dart gimmick, Manley's Amarillo walk with the walk on girl and Part's Star Wars schtick with Chewie and lightsaber in tow.

The only boring crap walk on was, of course, Wade, who at that time walked on to Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. It's a decent song but the fact he barely got into it stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the other colourful ones, from the viewpoint of 10 year old me. So much more effort put into it back then compared to now.

I imagine there's a lot of anxiety associated with the walk-on nowadays. Anybody trying something even slightly different is making themselves vulnerable to so much abuse.

On which point, what do you all think about the Gurney, Dimitri and Wright walk-ons?

Dimi's walk on is obviously fabulous
Gurney can fuck right off. His music plays way longer than the rest. The fact he reverts to being a miserable cunt the second it stops makes it all the more unfathomable

I'm pretty much bored of all of them. Gurney's is especially terrible
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

Gurney probably has the best tune for getting the crowd singing, but I cannot stand it because it is him...
He is such a miserable looking fuck, he still only gives a half-smile to the crowd while they are singing to him...

Dimitri is harmless enough...
Not everybody's cup of tea, but I have no issue with it...

Crusty.... Again the crowd love it, especially the kids, but that Grinch outfit....
He should've faced a firing squad for that..

I haven't seen him do that in a while, but I don't pay too much attention to the miserable bastard...

I hate Dimitri's walk on with a passion. I used to dislike Devon's but Dimitri put his into perspective, I don't mind Devon's now.

I like Wright's song and his routine is iconic now even if it's stale.

Gurney only picked Sweet Caroline as it plays at Windsor Park when NI international team play. Maybe being a contrarian but I don't like it as a walk on song. It's almost got an "end of the night feel" to it, bit like Mr Brightside or We are the Champions. I think the best walk ons are motivating warm ups and you see that these days with Van Gerwen, Wright and Gando's.

Price's Ice Ice Baby walk on is horrible. Too quiet and only relevant to his nickname. Iceman is so ironic for Price. I get the Ice-Price rhyme but he's so explosive with the celebrations that calling him "ice cool" is laughable.

It's enough to make any player want to keep their head down and hurry to the stage with as little fuss as possible.

Here are some current walk ons I think are the best currently or are underrated.

Van Gerwen- Seven Nation Army

Chizzy- Dizzy

Whitlock- Down Under

Merv- Bow Down (esp 2009 PL with the cringey fanfare)

VVDV and Dirk- Goes without saying really

Beaton- Stayin Alive

Hendo/Shining- Rocking all over the world

Keegan Brown- Blitzkrieg Bop, it's wasted on such an unremarkable player who's rarely on tv

Stuart Kellett used to use that song. Well, maybe he still does. We'll never know at this rate.
