French Open 2018 Cancelled

Dear All,

We regret to inform you of the cancellation of the French Open 2018.

Indeed, since 6 months now and the initial change of the planned date, we are having problems with the club hosting this event for the French Federation in the north of France. Today, we do not have any garantee that the tournament could be held in good conditions. All the indicators are red, and we can not decently find a remplacement now for August.

The French Federation of Darts, year after year, has always wanted to organize a nice event, worthy of many European tournaments with a BDO ranking. We take today this decision with great pain and bitterness, but especially with the sense of responsibility that is ours : there is no question for us to welcome players in conditions that are not optimal.

We are really sorry for this change, and all the consequences. We are already working to bounce back in 2019 with an accomplished organization.

Regards,

Stéphane Quiquandon

I like how the BDO website keeps the bad translation and the spelling mistakes in. Tidy it up, ffs.

The whole thing is setting up nicely for a few years of dominance by Phantom. That is I'd any of this shit last a few years. Or they come back in droves.

Had he grown a set and jumped ship I guess McGeeney would have been set for a few world titles.
Just let that thought settle in.

Youth prospect McGeeney will probably switch soon though. He said the following in January. Durrant's 'rivals' are disappearing at some rate. Big Throbbo's day might yet come! Wouldn't that be lovely.
McGeeney faces three-time BDO world champion Martin Adams in the first round on Saturday, but has not ruled out leaving the organisation depending on his performance at Lakeshite.

"It's something I've thought about and I'd never rule it out. My focus for now is going to be on Martin Adams at Lakeshite but after that you never know," he continued.

"I think one day I will switch to the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) because that is the future of darts as far as I'm concerned."
