Re: Massive PDC Worlds Changes Announced - 96 players!
From what I can glean from FB of the CDC directors the criteria for selection will be based on the one year rankings. They also said that the specifics on nationality has to be worked out.

They've chucked up a list of (some) provisional Ally Pally qualifiers which is nice. This bit suggests they'll go down merit lists rather than give extra spots to the PDPA Qualifier, in the case of the Challenge Tour at least. Nillson is 2nd in the Challenge Tour OoM.

Re: Massive PDC Worlds Changes Announced - 96 players!
This 96 player field is great news for darts.
The PDC needs a points system similar to what men's tennis has, or a big increase in prize money at events like the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and Grand Slam.
Correct. At the time that the Order of Merit ranking system was introduced after the 2007 World Championship, it was far superior to the old point system they used. However, in recent years since William Hill took over from Ladbrokes as the World Championship sponsors and prize money going up to absurd levels in comparison to other majors, this has changed.tungsten tossers wrote:Wasn't the OOM put in place when Colin Lloyd knocked Phil off the top spot as Phil missed a lot of the floor tournaments and Colin played pretty much everything. Tennis is probably a good model. It seems to keep the in form players at the top but also reward players for doing well in all tournaments, rather than just one. It's been debated extensively on forums but I can never remember the general consensus: would a one year system for the main oom work?PT13 wrote:This 96 player field is great news for darts.

I think the 1 year system works very well for tennis, but I think it would be too intense for darts, to be honest. The points system would give the difference in size between the World Championship and the World Matchplay, in terms of ranking, a far better reflection than what's happened since William Hill became sponsors of the World Championship and prize money for the winner going up at least £50,000 every year since and now £100,000 next time.Chizzyfan wrote:Tennis is probably a good model. IMO the best solution is to have a weighted system in place. So keep it two years but make the money won in a one-year period worth double.Chizzyfan wrote:Tennis is probably a good model. Of course this solution still means the Worlds prize money is over the top so would still need some tinkering.

Re: Massive PDC Worlds Changes Announced - 96 players!
There's not an awful lot wrong with the Order of Merit system they have in place at the moment, I'd say maybe make it into a points system based on money, cut the world's money in half so it's about twice as much as the Matchplay, GP etc, and maybe cut what happened between 1 and 2 years ago in half so we don't have players like Adrian Lewis holding onto a ranking for two years off the back of one tournament

Still think if the women like Ashton,Anastasia,Sherrock,Winstanley and De Graaf have any sence u go to the pdc worlds as u guarantee yourself 7500 if you do win you are getting more than you get for winning the lakeside plus for Anastasia and De Graaf they can go to Rest of World qualifier. Still think only Ashton and Anastasia will in the PDC qualifier

The only people who should be excluded from playing BDO events are the 128 Tour Card holders as they are professional players.Randall wrote:Lorraine winstanley thinks the bdo will ban any ladies from lakeshite if they play the odd event.

Re: Massive PDC Worlds Changes Announced - 96 players!
Not sure if the BDO would ban all women who entered the qualifier or just the 2 competing at Ally Pally? Also if playing at Ally Pally would hinder them qualifying for Lakeside 2019, as they already have some points on their rankings.Safc wrote:Still think if the women like Ashton,Anastasia,Sherrock,Winstanley and De Graaf have any sence u go to the pdc worlds as u guarantee yourself 7500 if you do win you are getting more than you get for winning the Lakeshite plus for Anastasia and De Graaf they can go to Rest of World qualifier. The answer to these question is needed before the ladies can make a proper judgement

Typically the BDO doesn't set the criteria in writing for the Lakeside till September or October, last year for the 2018 event they did the rules in August of 2017 so they stepped it up a bit. So regardless of what they say or do nothing is guaranteed till after the "season" is about over.

Re: Massive PDC Worlds Changes Announced - 96 players!
This is a very clever move by Uncle Barry for various reasons. Expansion of the PDC world wide had been underway for a while now and the additional qualifiers are a natural progression. The value added to Tour Cards as mentioned earlier is also going to make 2019 Q School very interesting as the potential reward is massive.
Moving on to the women he's put the BDO board in a horrible position as they bang on and on how they support womens' darts. Now they will either continue supporting or start banning.

On a completely different topic: Now that 64 tour players are going to the Worlds, I wonder if they're going to cut the PC Finals back down to 32 again?

Yes. UK Open used to be top 96 plus ties, now it's just a flat top 96.thegentle wrote:Have the PDC ever made an event smaller?Zeyes wrote:On a completely different topic: Now that 64 tour players are going to the Worlds, I wonder if they're going to cut the PC Finals back down to 32 again?
