Going by Addicks Fan's stats over the road, the prize fund for the WDT, World Masters and Finder Masters COMBINED is now considerably less than a Pro Tour double-header. Also less than a single Euro Tour event. That's good intit. OMFG.

Prize money doesn't matter, don't forget, to us watching on.

I try to avoid the usual slogans, but I daresay the Benelux stuff is an actual case of a bubble bursting. There's only so much room for (in amateur darts terms) big-money floor events, and it never made much sense that they were steadily expanding while the system as a whole was stagnating / regressing. Looks like promoters are finally forced to acknowledge that the player base has been spread too thin by the proliferation of events (probably the sponsorship base as well), boosted by the BDO's desperate awarding of ranking points to any random event that asks.

And at least to me, the HAL events seemed to be on borrowed time anyway ever since Mariflex stopped its sponsorship three years ago. So no huge surprise there, though I bet the people behind it will try to re-revive it again.
