Damn shame if true mate
It was back in that dark time of forum history before Oche discovered the Wikipedia Recent deaths page.
RIP Dame Olivia (or Olivian as some called her)
Many racehorses would've gone unmentioned back then too..
A terrible shame, given all the money they had made for the bookies
Oh... and RIP Olivia

I was looking at Mervyn King's wiki earlier. I was surprised to see how his BDO career compared with Adams's. It was clearly better up until Adams won Lakeside in 2007 (Merv's last tounament with the BDO)
- King debuted at Lakeside in 1997. He was seeded alongside Adams by early 1998 and was ranked ahead of him by 1999. King consistently remained ahead of Adams in the rankings between 1999 and 2006 other than a brief period around 2001.
- King had already won 3 BDO majors before Adams won his first at Lakeside 07 (04 Masters, 05 IDL, 05 Finders). Merv also won those events while Barney was still in the BDO and the organisation was at its strongest post split. So King wasn't just a floor warrior.
- King had stints as BDO number 1, entering Lakeside 2001 and 2006 as the number 1 seed. Adams did enter the 96 and 07 version as number 1 seed in fairness
- King made two Lakeside finals (02 and 04). Adams again only matched that by making the final of Lakeside 07. (05 and 07)
All in all, I think King was a bit better in the BDO than is remembered. I think there is a decent chance he would have won Lakeside eventually had he stayed in the BDO.

He's a legendary character and as you say he's had a good career.
I wish him good health, I worry about his back the most.

Not convinced. Did he win anything in the PDC?

He's definitely a bdo legend and there is an argument he is a pdc legend for his two chokes in major finals vs wadey and van goblin, they were legendary chokes and orgasmicly beautiful viewing.

Not on TV.
However, he switched at a time when Barney and Wade were at their peaks and when Taylor was about to find the best form we had ever seen.
If he could make two Lakeside finals and win 3 majors in the early-mid 2000s BDO, I don't think it is wild to claim he could possibly go one better at Lakeside in the late 00s and especially the early 2010s.

Yes lots of ifs.
He could have also won one of the many PDC majors when Taylor was knocked out.

The Lakeside fields were far more wide open in the late 2000s and early 2010s than PDC fields.
For example, Webster and Kist both won Lakeside, but neither won PDC TV event after switching.
I'm not claiming King would have 100% won Lakey had he stayed, but he certainly would have had a chance.

PL 09 finals night.
One of the few TV defeats Taylor suffered around that period.
