Surely it'd be much more worth their while trying to tempt over the overseas players at this stage? Nothing stopping these guys trying out Q-School

That was undoubtedly its original purpose.
Now its anyones guess.

I've defended the BDO players' participation for years. I do enjoy the PDC vs BDO dynamic.

However, the rivalry is clearly not what it once was. The BDO players become less competitive with each passing year.

It was, but that concept is now outdated. The tournament has served its initial purpose as a "battle of the codes" event, there's nothing to exhaust from it anymore.
