Just trying to get a decent discussion going rather than dick waving, can't see the inter milan approach working consistently against opposition who have 65+ ball possession.

I'm not getting into dick waving mate, I see the point you make, and keeping the ball is important, but you have to get the ball first.

Arsenal have had 2stabs at them playing similar high ball retention football, and barely bothered them in the camp nou.

and agree that to challenge Barcelona you need world class midfielders and there aren't many out there as Barca arguably have the best 3. For any team to compete I feel you will need the next best 3(whoever they are) in the same team.

That would be a short list I think, as much as he is a play acting wanker, he is very good at what he does. They sold yaya because they had him.

That's a byline though, the 3 you mean are the best, and you are looking at maybe cesc, sneijder & ronaldo as maybe the direct like for like next 3.

Lots of ifs and buts mate, not a lot answered from 2008 to be honest. I believe if Ferguson wasn't nearing the end of his career he might not have tried to play so "romatically" and tried a different approach away from entertaining the masses.

I'll live knowing Utd lost 2 finals to the best team of my era. I'd be more pissed off if I was sitting here knowing we had lost to Madrid and chelski.

I said waaaaay back in July, this season was a rebuilding job, and anything trophy wise would be a bonus.

The team will still need at least one more season of tinkering before it's well knit and they have gelled enough to be properly judged against great Utd teams.
