How can lengthy paragraphs explaining an opinion, and then elaborating on why I believe same be "trolling"?
Do we have to pretend that Taylor averaged 110 every time, or that 1/8 shots never get beaten?
If they ran 10,000 simulations of the upcoming PDC worlds, you'd end up with probably 30-40 different winners. To state that Tony David, who won 3 BDO majors in 2002 so was possibly the 2nd best player in the world that year, couldn't have possibly won a unified world championship either by playing an underpar Taylor or being lucky enough to have someone else upset him early in the tournament is pretty much willful ignorance. Unlikely, yes. "Fuck off idiit, it's impossible", no.

Randall, can you clarify your view on this, please?TopLad180 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 7:58 am To state that Tony David, who won 3 BDO majors in 2002 so was possibly the 2nd best player in the world that year, couldn't have possibly won a unified world championship either by playing an underpar Taylor or being lucky enough to have someone else upset him early in the tournament is pretty much willful ignorance. I suspect you actually agree that Taylor would have won fewer titles in a unified field.

To think, this latest strop began because he couldn't take people thinking Hankey was better than Fordham.

For clarity, it was Senna who questioned Randall multiple times and then HJ also came in with the usual you're biased line. Just stating a fact, I couldn't give a shit about Hankey or Fordham. It's only a strop if you're on the other side.

Glad I'm only posting in this thread because of the post count. It's just irritating to see someone refer to the public opinion as a fact or use arguments like "this wouldn't happen in any other sport" or whatever.

Re: The darts forum definitive all time top 32 -27th place poll
Parallels with other sports are important, but probably only individual sports like golf and snooker where players can have 20 year careers at the top of the game.
I value "how good I think this player was, and how long were they that good for" higher than "how much have they won" and "what's their best one-off performance", with a lack of competition bias against anyone who peaked before 1990. That's subjective obviously, and I'd try to apply it consistently. I can't have Waites, Deller or Rees above Adams, King or Shitlock. Lloyd and Thornton we've already discussed. While Tony David's 2002 would be one of the top 15-20 years anyone ever had (if each player only got one year, so 2016 for MVG, 2009 or so for Feel), overall he'd be lucky to crack the top 50 (albeit probably not his fault due to the haemophilia).
