Re: Are mandatory life sentences unjust?
i can see what they mean regarding clear cut mercy killings etc.
however id have said the system was ludicrously lenient as it is and this is likely to lead to more abuse of it.

Re: Are mandatory life sentences unjust?
if you knowingly and willingly take somebodies life then the life tariff should be enforced in my opinion.
im not interested in redemption, forgiveness etc.
the person they chose to kill stays dead so why they should get a second chance is beyond me.

if you fiddle with kids you should be executed.
not in a public show, or in terrible pain, but you had your chance to be normal, and you fucked it up.

No, the life sentence should be mandatory. That said the trial judge usually decides the minimum tarrif and very few murderers actually serve life inside. However, once released they are on licence and can be recalled for the most minor of misdemeanors.
When you actually feel anger over a place like this it's time to get a life

prisons would be a lot more dangerous than they are at present if life meant life. getting out in 12 years may be a long time away, but i might stop you knifing your cellmate because he snores
