Re: Randall's favourite fawlty towers episodes....
12 the anniversary
Quite easy for me to pick a least favourite
Basil pretends to forget his anniversary in order to surprise cybil with a surprise party.
Unfortunately she takes the hump and leaves
When the guests arrive he pretends she is sick culminating in polly impersonating her.
It's good, but not on the level of the best ones

I agree with that word for word. It’s good but the other 11 are outstanding.Randall wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 7:39 pm 12 the anniversary

Top 3 and this is hard.
1) Waldorf Salad - the bit where the Yank walks in the kitchen and sees Basil pretending to berate the Chef is one of the funniest scenes ever.
2) The psychiatric
3) The Kipper and the corpse

The episode where I feel the most sorry for Basil is Communication problems. You just so wanted him to keep his winnings
John Cleese’s favourite episode was ‘Basil the rat’

That is excruciating, that one. Basil, the suffering. All he has to do is tell their friends that he planned this surprise for Sybil and it's all gone wrong. His heart was in the right place.Randall wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 7:39 pm 12 the anniversary

All he has to do to free himself of this painful farce is tell them the truth. But he just can't, because... he's ill, I guess. Basil is not well.

How cruelly would I be mocked if I liken The Brittas Empire to Fawlty Towers? I know someone who is stressed to fuck by both and for the same reason (not me) =D

Series 1-5 I like a lot. It gets too silly after that. It has surprising darkness and, if you follow it closely, depth.
Its prolonged 'state of emergency' storylines remind me of Fawlty Towers.

Of that era I liked keeping up appearances, game on, bottom and Colin's sandwich.

I love KUA, a dependable bit of fun. I also own Bottom and the live shows. Never seen the other two...Randall wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 8:47 pmOf that era I liked keeping up appearances, game on, bottom and Colin's sandwich.

Aargh how can I forget the Hotel Inspectors
I’ll revise my list so that is number 1
2 Waldorf Salad
3 The Psychiatrist

11 the psychiatrist
It had some classic moments
Basil reaching for the light switch
Mrs Johnson being in the room
Mrs fawlty she go crazy
But I dont like it as much as the remaining ones.

The guy who plays Roger (I think that's the characters name) steals every scene he's in.Randall wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 7:39 pm 12 the anniversary

Also hilarious when Sybil comes back and Basil tells everyone it is indeed "that woman who looks like Sybil"

There's no difference between all, each was sheer class and couldn't be bettered
When you actually feel anger over a place like this it's time to get a life
