you still got a core group of fans who know that the first week of the year is BDO darts.
to move at this time when the entire organisation is in doubt would be very risky in my opinion.

moving the dates of sporting events is a bigger deal than moving venues.

I couldn't tell you when the BDO World Masters is on anymore as it keeps changing.
therefore I missed it.
first week of New Year though I am aware is BDO darts, so would look out for it and watch it. move it to another time of year, and an event that is pretty much on its last legs would probably die.

They clearly need to scrap all idea of televising it and just worry about darts at amateur level.
There is clearly little demand amongst the public and absolutely none from the corporate arena.
They could hold an amateur championship in october with or without tv coverage and maybe Do a deal with baz that the finalists get a spot at ally pally.
Accept its place in the game and go from there.
The pretense that they hold a world professional championship and trying to fund it internally is only going to bankrupt them.

I thought there were the makings of a good tournament last week at the O2.
It is only financially that the figures dont stack up.

play for a smaller prize pot, reduce ticket prices and gradually it could become a big success there.

Problem is, everything costs money and they are losing a huge amount of money on every single tournament. TV coverage, production, the wages of well known commentators etc that's just going down the drain. That money should go into organising the event and into the players pockets. You say the only issue is financial but that's the be-all and end-all of everything. If that's not right, the rest can get to fuck. If the coin isn't there, there's no point in doing it. No point in throwing away cash on stuff you can't afford.
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

They are flushing away what is left from the sale of muswell hill putting on events they evidently cannot afford to pay for.
Time to accept it for what it is and step away from televising product nobody is interested in.

not a bad shout that. or even the last 4 get a tour card or something. the last player they had as world champion who could make a serious claim to be the best player in the world at the time was probably Barney in 2005. its been a laughing stock for years and the standard of play has been going down hill fast

To a point the pdc still needs the bdo, or more to the point, someone promoting and running the amateur game whatever they call themselves.
I'd be pretty sure barry would be open to supporting a feeder organisation with spots on the pro side of the game.
Its win win and the path the bdo should have taken at least 10 years ago

Rob Maul @Rob_Maul
On Indigo prize money front, BDO director Robert Macdougall says the players "will all receive a letter with the prize (money) breakdown".
Fears it could be as low as £23k.
CEO Des Jacklin said last week on record: "I don’t have to pay anybody at all until the 2nd week in Feb"

Lol. Nothing worrying about that.

Finally admitting defeat to the PDC but also admitting that serious changes are needed on the BDO side
To be fair to him, moving the competition to a later date in the diary is a sensible option.

why is it ?
this was never an issue when the event was held at Lakeshite.

first week of new year is still perfect for the BDO because you have people interested in darts because of the PDC event that just finished.
there is also fuck all else going on that week, so you got no clashes with other major sporting events.

it could maybe work in February but seriously if you take the BDO darts out of the winter then I can't see how you would get people interested.
With the PDC World's being extended I think holding off the BDO for an extra couple of months would help. I powered through but pretty sure i'd have enjoyed the tournament more were it not the tail end of a full month of darts almost every day.

Will they? And how different? Let's be honest WDF is pretty inept itself. Im little less judgemental towards them but they haven't done much ever. Ok till smacking the BDO recently. But that was a no brainer given the violations and the WDF sport affiliations they had no choice I think and stay in orgs that have sporting integrity as their goals. I said that last part half heartedly in all honesty.

WDF is the logical choice to step in just not convinced they can pull it of succesfully. They have one or two shots to get it right. If not TV will be off the table for some time for the amateur side of the game.
