Van Gerwen led 5-4 in sets, after trailing Cross 3-4. I think van Gerwen also had an early break in the eleventh and final set and got broken back, Cross missed the first match dart at the bull, van Gerwen broke Cross' throw to lead 5-4 in the final set and throw for the match, van Gerwen missed 5 match darts when he threw for the match and missed another match dart in the sudden death leg before Cross won.

7 years ago, James Wade led Adrian Lewis 5-1 in the World Championship semi final. Lewis won 6-5, after winning the last 10 legs of the match, as Wade's form went to pot in the last 3 sets after he missed a match dart which would have won it 6-2.The Thorn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 30, 2018 11:08 pmPT13 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 30, 2018 11:06 pmVan Gerwen led 5-4 in sets, after trailing Cross 3-4. He's been making excuses for that battering since the very beginning of the tournament.
Never played well enough all comp to put up a game tonight.
Time for him to take some time after this to decide what to do. Can either take that phenomenal talent and make the most of it while he still can or he can piss and moan about everything and smirk his way to more of these hidings in the future.

Gando definitely out of sorts but MvG basically bullied him into submission there..
I don't think anyone would have beaten him tonight

6-1
nowhere near enough 9 darters by Gary. That hurt him.

Pathetic show from Gando there. I know MVG was in bulldozer mode but I wondered why Gary even bothered winning yesterday.

MVG is the best player we have ever seen. A 3rd world title will be too sweet.
A Van Gerwen by any other name would smell as sweet.

Might also be for MVG that he can't believe that match was so easy, so he's relieved, also he hasn't been to loads of finals here, he's lost at various stages, and to be fair he is always likely to win 4 or more world titles all being well with his health, he deserves his final spot for sure, hopefully Smith can put up a proper fight.
