[quoteIs darts a sport ?
Technique based, requires practice, skill, dealing with pressure, you have to beat someone else and you play in tournaments with money, ranking points and trophies at stake. Apart from the fact that Archery is a sport so the fitness aspect goes mostly out of the window why would anyone if they think about it logically think that darts isn't a sport?
Because it's played by massive fat cunts.
It isn't an athletic sport though, hence the term athletics, and it's not like squash, tennis, badminton etc, it's like snooker that's definitely a sport it's a bastard hard game to get any good at but it's not athletic, I'm shit at it for the record

[quoteDid you at any point think it was real?
when I was like 10, that was pre Internet in the early 90s, but nowadays with the Internet its' well known it's not, in my day it was hard to know for sure, the physical aspect of it is real but the competitive aspect as in trying to determine a definite winner isn't, kids nowadays have no excuses for thinking it's real

lol no way! I've never done naked wrestling lol my brother and I wrestled with teddies when we were between 8 and 13 years old instead of the wrestling figures though because we could do more moves with them, the figures we had didn't have much movement in them.

Wasn't aware he'd actually switched darts again, could never understand the reason he switched, other than the money anyway. he was dominant with the phase 5s

Darts is a pub game, not a sport. You can't play defense to begin with.

Darts is right there with competitive eating regarding physical prowess.

The defence in darts is the best sort, i.e. attack. Even if you're in a brilliant position in a match, you can't just run down the clock until the match is over, or stop your opponent from scoring; and you've still got to do a job to get the victory. Switching off is not an option, and there are no teammates to help you out either unless it's a pairs match.

That tells you how great MVG is now and could be, definitely the second best of all time for me. At the moment he's a better than average world number 1 in his sport that doesn't give him the right to walk around like Taylor like he's a darts God, he could be in due course but it appears he ain't no saint off the oche either despite what Sky want us to believe.

Taylor had sex with 2 women who lured him in, they were consensual, drunk and went out to trap him, girls do it to footballers on a nightly basis up and down the land it's a competition to them. It's not a good thing and it's certainly something he will regret but I doubt any of us have never done any sort of serious mistake that we don't regret. It's part of human nature, at least they weren't underage and mentally disabled like Klaasen did, there are degrees of crime. He was stupid, naive sure, but let's put it in a degree of perspective. Everyone makes mistakes at some point at the end of the day, some are worse than others if you can't accept that and move on then you have a lot of growing up to do

WAS YOU THERE DO YOU HAVE THE TAPES?
Second best of all time? Behave!
See what Taylor reduced him too? Bristow would have eaten him alive.
You don't think he'll win another 4 or 5 world titles? What about all his other titles? Besides even if you have a point mentally Bristow and everyone else knows there has never been anyone else remotely like MVG in terms of a prolonged period of dominance, he's standard wise definitely the second best of all time, prime Barney could cope with him but I doubt any of the old guard could, including Bristow himself
Maybe he will but your ignorance of Bristow gives away your young age I suspect. Your going to through numbers at me next but I guarantee you mvg or nobody else was chucking 120 averages on boards in the 80s.

I want to know his top ten. From the oracle
lol Jahangir Khan
Don Bradman
Babe Ruth
A P McCoy
Phil Taylor
Daley Thompson
Martina Navratilova
Michael Schumacher
Michael Phelps
Heather McKay

Of course it's arguable to a degree and there are loads of other great sportsmen and women not far off.
Possibly the most ludicrous top ten I have ever seen.

He isn't competing at the next Olympics.

Not a bad tourney...........I mean Gurney/Ferrypot/Taylor/Doink wouldn't exactly have been my pick for a SF line-up but MVG getting his green hunchback goblin arse raped in a QF pretty much made up for everything else. 8-)

So what if you can't play defense? It matters not where darts is played, it still requires an awful lot of accuracy, skill, practice, bottle and technique to play to any sort of genuine standard, playing in competition for titles, money and in a ranking system is what makes it a sport. If I said Tennis wasn't a sport because it was played on a court and I hated courts due to snobbish people what would anyone say? If I said I hated snooker because it was played in a club why would that make any difference to the actual playing of the game in terms of the skillset needed? Total rubbish argument, you're entitled to your opinion but you're not entitled for others to agree to it.

Competitive eating isn't really a sport, believe it or not those people are in much better physical shape than the darters, gym work, calorie control, managing the calorie surplus after a challenge, there's no real technique but it does take a good deal of hard work to get to any sort of good amateur to pro level at it. There's more to sport than just pure physical prowess otherwise only court sports and athletics would be considered sports.
